Should I read this? I've heard a lot of people like this but vampires as the main characters of a book aren't usually my thing.

I'm not too much into vampires either but I'm enjoying the series as it's so much more than that. Vampires are just one of the many aspects of it.

This is my favorite book series EVER!

Dimitri was meh for me. It's all about Adrian! He totally made the series for me.

Yess. Dimitri is the ultimate but I kind of like Adrian more too. He's not in the first book though.

I also found Dimitri meh, I don't know, I never got that "he's the God" aspect about him.
I fell in love with Adrian (but never tought Rose is the one for him because she didn't respect him enough) and I think that the most interesting character was Christian Ozrera. I wish we got to read more about him and I always tought it would be interesting to read sth in his POV. Although we found out a lot about him, he still stayed a mysterious...

P.S. I really wish Richelle Mead will one day decide to write and publish at least another book that takes place in this world...

Read this back in 2013 for another book club. Here's what I thought:

I was definitely not looking forward to reading this. I don't know why I assumed I would hate this book. I think it was around the time I was hating Twilight and lumped all vampire series together in one big hate stew. I am so glad this was a book club pick and that I gave it a chance. It's really good. I was hooked from the very first page. I can't wait to read the whole series :)

I found this book by accident looking for a present for my sister. It was my instant favourite. (The whole series really).
The characters were beautiful, and if there's one thing I love about YA it's the angst. Richelle Mead nails it, though manages to run a story alongside. The friendship between Rose and Lissa is what makes this book memorable for me.

When I first bought this series I was kind of wary, because I absolutely hated Twilight. I absolutely love this series though! I am in love Rose; I feel she is such an atypical female heroine. I love her and Dimitri's relationship, but I can definitely see why people like Adrian more.
