Janet (justjanet) | 791 comments I've been disheartened lately by reading too many mediocre books so I devised a new method of finding my next great read.

1) Pick a friend from your list
2) Sort their bookshelf by rating (so you have the "best" books)
3) Scroll down until you find something you want to read or in my case already have on my bulging bookshelves.

Anybody else have a crazy method of finding their next great read?

Julie M (woolyjooly) | 314 comments great idea, Janet! I've felt the same way lately . . am at a loss as to what to pick from the pile or the library.

Interesting. I like that, Janet.

Debbie (Vote Blue) | 261 comments Oh dear. I am generally fairly generous in my ratings. I figure I just didn't get it or am not in a life experience to appreciate it. Rarely do I totally dislike something---although I'm giving up one one audiobook right now.

Janet (justjanet) | 791 comments No worries Debbie, the "rating" is an average of everyone on Goodreads who has rated the book so your rating wouldn't disproportionately influence my choice (although I do pay attention to what my friends like!)

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 200 comments I sometimes pick out books from the oldest part of my to-read list or that have been sitting around on my shelves, unread. Then I speed-date them (link goes to my blog talking about the last time I did it.) This actually results in two great accomplishments - I decide to get rid of a few, and rediscover why I wanted to read some others. And voila, great reads!
