You are not thinking about THE EYRE AFFAIR by Jasper Fforde, are you? They are not precisely librarians, but they do travel between worlds to keep order.
I'll keep it in mind as an idea for my next novel...

It doesn't quite line up with your description, but are you talking about The Library at Mount Char?
Sounds like Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series. Or how about Jim C. Hines's Magic Ex Libris series?
If it's YA it could be the Beautiful Creatures series.

Not only did this thread make me want to read it but I also found it on Amazon for only 59p(Kindle edition). Its there right now.

Hiya, I don't know if you're still interested in The Invisible Library, but if so, you might like to know there's a second (The Masked City) and third (The Burning Page) book to the series now.
