Daniel Haight | 22 comments I’m happy to say that what I said was met with mostly positive feedback. However a noisy minority of people took me to task for what they felt was a ‘libertarian / Pollyanna-like’ mindset and accused me of being blind to the struggles that real people are facing in the Bay Area these days.

Ken (kanthr) | 165 comments Reddit has a meta community. There's a strong current of "me too!" downvoting and post-clinging. Contributors will upvote things they agree with rather than things that contribute to the topic. True statements are foregone in favor of popular ones.

In essence, to participate in reddit is like trying to hold a conversation with a mob. It's not going to make the rational choices and reasoned arguments of an individual. Once a sassy reply is generated, the rest will propel it to the fore.

So while I appreciate the interesting topics that can appear on various subreddits, I also tend to take long breaks from the site as I cannot stand the ignorant arrogance of contributors who just want to feel "Right" on the internet by padding votes.

Regarding your link: The fact that you quote Murrow has big pull with me. I like what you're saying here, and agree. It's a subtle but important point about perseverance.
