Gill | 5719 comments I hope it's OK to start a new challenge at this stage of the year.

I must clarify that my intention is NOT to read everything that Graham Greene has written.

My intention is firstly to identify which I have actually read. Several of these were many years ago, when I didn't really like his books.

Then I want to sort out which I am going to read over the next few years, and a provisional running order. So this will be very much a work in progress!

Leslie | 16369 comments I like it! It is interesting to see the chronological list. And all those volumes of short stories - I'll have to add one of them to my short story list :)

message 4: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments Good challenge, Gill - I haven't read any of Graham Greene's books, although I do own an old copy of The Quiet American, as yet unread. I hope you enjoy your challenge!

Yes, I might jump onboard for some as well!

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Nice idea Gill! I hope it works for you as well as my Dickens one is doing for me. It's lovely to have others join in (and I might well do here, with a couple, if that's OK.) Mine was originally over two years but looks like being extended even further :D

message 9: by Gill (new)

Gill | 5719 comments Thanks for all the comments. If anyone wants to join in for any books, that would be great. Mind you, I think it will take me a bit of time to sort this out!

Jean, it was partly your challenge that made me think of doing this. You certainly seem to be enjoying yours!

message 12: by Gill (new)

Gill | 5719 comments Books I have possibly read many moons ago. I need to check these out:
A Burnt Out Case 1960
The Heart of the Matter 1940
The Power and the Glory 1948

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) How lovely Gill! That does give me a nice warm feeling!

What's so fantastic about the way mine is working out is that others are joining in both for the actual reads, and to comment whether they're currently reading it or not.

I never expected much interest really, so it's a complete surprise and is just great! You're right, I'm really enjoying it. Plus of course, I have somewhere to put my thoughts on Dickens or anything relevant I want to record. :)

I do hope you get "surprise bonuses" from yours too :D

Leslie | 16369 comments Glad to see that so many are available in an accessible format! :)

I listened to the audiobook (on CDs) of Our Man in Havana, which I found excellent so I can recommend Jeremy Northam's narration.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Great challenge. I really enjoyed Brighton Rock bit I've not read anything else by him

message 18: by Gill (new)

I read The Quiet American years ago but would be interested in rereading it Shirley. Let me know...

The End of the Affair I thought was very good - my short review is here.

message 25: by Gill (new)

Gill | 5719 comments I'd recommend them both, Shirley. Each in their own way. I probably preferred The Quiet American.

Thanks Gill.

Leslie, I'd be happy to read The Quiet American later in the year, if you would like to..?
