Thanks:)

No it wasn't. We are in Florida now and it was at my library book store. September is half price on all books which means they are all .25 each.

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments What a fab price. We have nothing anywhere near that.

Tom Mathews | 671 comments Ship of Ghosts: The Story of the USS Houston, FDR's Legendary Lost Cruiser, and the Epic Saga of Her Survivors has been sitting in my Amazon shopping cart for months. I finally broke down and bought it. It's not all that risky, though, asJames Hornfischer has never let me down.

Steven Tyler (steventyler) | 30 comments Bought Mr. Wicker Mr. Wicker by Maria Alexander for a bookclub.

The first six pages were good, then all the characters started having bad attitudes. Hey, Ms. Alexander, it's not a fun time to be around everyone who is negative.

PS: Maria, the doctor tells the woman who tried to commit suicide that she is free to leave the ward whenever she wants. That's not correct due to liability issues. If an attempted suicide is discharged without being released into someone else care and then commits suicide, the hospital could be sued.

FYI

Tom Mathews | 671 comments I just broke down and bought Little Sister Death by William Gay to get me into the mood for Halloween. If it really does 'skillfully toes the line between Southern Gothic and horror' then I should be in for a treat.

Little Sister Death by William Gay

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) So I didn't buy this book and I haven't bought any for a long time, but I took my kids to the library last week and I told them and myself I wasn't getting any more books from the library until I narrowed down my read for review list. But I felt as though Murder House by James Patterson just jumped in my hands and begged to be taken home. Luckily, I can get through James Patterson books very quickly, so will leave it until a few days before it needs to be returned.

message 1732: by Aymen (new)

Aymen Ben cheikh Lorrea I can t enter or walk by a bookstore without ending up with a book or two in hands without even thinking, even when i need that money. I have a problem! And I read "Kill me if you can" by James Patterson it s a page turner, i need to read more of his books.

message 1733: by Aymen (last edited Oct 19, 2015 09:19AM) (new)

Aymen Ben cheikh Hi, just came home from the bookstore, and i got two books that i wasn t planning to buy, but i took my time , saw a lot of books, i was going to pick "Doctor Sleep" but i decided to read something that is not written by Stephen King for a change. So i picked "Siege" by Simon Kernick, i ve already read "Deadline" last year and it was great. The second book was a surprise for me, i picked because of a sentence written on the cover:" When all appears to be lost, the real fight has just begun" And i really need inspiration at this moment. The book is "Winners" by Danielle Steel, first time i m going to read one of her books, it Drama about a female athlete stuggling after an accident.

I agree. That is why I buy gift cards and apply my purchases to that. It makes it easier for me to keep track of how much I'm spending.

message 1738: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 1266 comments @Tom - I totally agree and I was doing that. BUT... So, my New Year's resolution is to go back to that again.

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) Pat, I'm not sure if you're buying physical books or ebooks, but if they are ebooks, go to Kindle best sellers. There you can sort by genre and they have a listing for free and paid books. I have found quite a few gems in that treasure chest. As well as on the paid side been able to find some books that are $.99 or less. I got The Boy in the Suitcase (Nina Borg, #1) by Lene Kaaberbøl a couple of years ago for $.01.

@Lorrea - thanks for the suggestion. I buy both physical books and ebooks. I just have to budget better. Like Tom, gift cards work great for me. But, I've had some health problems lately and when I'm down I turn to retail therapy. Bad, bad....

My buying of books has gone right down, but the total I am reading has gone up !!

With Net Galley books and book bub books, and books sent to me, I do not need to buy many.

Also now just buy kindle books that are under £2.00

message 1750: by Tom (new)

Tom Mathews | 671 comments I just bought two books that may seem seasonal. Last night I went over to Marin County to meet Alex Mar, whose new book, Witches of America, is an in-depth investigation of modern pagan religions. I figured that if I am going to research the story of my great (x9) grandmother's hanging for witchcraft I should at least have a passing knowledge of what actual witches are like.

Also, this morning I ordered The Witches: Salem, 1692 by Stacy Schiff which went on sale today and promises to be a best-seller. We shall see.
