Shay (shaylyn318) | 57 comments I am looking for a really disturbing story about an insane asylum. Abandoned or active as long as it is creepy and disturbing.

Alice, that's fine. I'll give it a shot.

GracieKat | 195 comments The Reach, I believe is set mainly at one. Also The Asylum, Shutter Island, Amador Lockdown, and Shadows in the Asylum: The Case Files of Dr. Charles Marsh.

I have not read The Reach or The Asylum yet so I can't vouch for those. I liked Shutter Island and Shadows in the Asylum. Shadows is written out like a case report from a doctor and the physical book is shaped like a file folder, it was pretty good. A bit of a Lovecraftian style but not overly much. Amador Lockdown was ok.

Christopher Conlon (goodreadscomchristopherconlon) | 530 comments Psycho: Sanitarium is an authorized sequel to Robert Bloch’s Psycho by Chet Williamson, himself the author of several excellent horror novels. I found it more effective than either of Bloch’s own sequels, honestly.

Randy Money | 432 comments I know you're asking for written works, but if you haven't seen the movie, Session 9, you may want to. Intense and very well acted.

Marie | 4030 comments This book was really good about an insane asylum:

Tormented by Lee Mountford

lots of dripping blood and gore - borders almost on the extreme.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments I actually thought about writing a 3 book series based on an insane asylum. I don't know if I will but the concept is there.

Mark Matthews (xmarkm) | 269 comments The Hobgoblin of Little Minds is about a true abandoned psychiatric facility right near my house. Oh yeah, and Werewolves. There's Werewolves inside. (in the tunnels, which also exist)
