Great Middle Grade Reads discussion

I'm trying to find a book series that I read when I was in elementary school. I can't remember if I got the books in Bermuda, Canada or the USA. There were several volumes of the book series published and I think they were square shaped. I thought it was called Myths and Legends and the volume number was written in roman numerals. There were at least 6 volumes. Each book was a collection of short stories about myths and legends around the world. I'm pretty sure that several of them had Aesop fables in them too. Some stories would be long, some only a couple of pages.

I'm guessing they were published in either the late 1970s or 1980s - 1988 at the latest probably.

Each volume was a different colour - I think. I remember there being one maroon and at least one green cover. They were progressive in terms of reading levels - book 1 was for lower readers compared to book 6.

Was it the THROUGH THE GOLDEN WINDOWS series? Mostly Magic

Have you tried typing the title into Google and looking through images to find the book cover?

I have but haven't come up with it yet. :(

I'm part of another group on Good Reads called What's the name of that book???. It is a great group that helps look for forgotten books, you could try posting your message there too. I've found a few forgotten books with them and added (far too many) to my TBR list as well! Good luck, sorry I couldn't help with an actual answer though.

I did find the book - So far from the Bamboo Grove

So Far from the Bamboo Grove, I assume you don't mean... Maybe Tales from the Bamboo Grove? But that doesn't look quite right either...
