Sigh, I realized too late that I made a silly "Too/To" error.

Stephanie Ward (stephmward) | 26 comments Travel is my middle name, so I'm definitely in!

My list:

The Fishermen (based in Nigeria and shortlisted for the 2015 Man Booker Prize) - Geographical Setting: Read a book set in a different country than your own.

Birds of Passage, An Italian Immigrant Coming of Age Story (Coming of Age) - Travel to a Different Genre: Read a book from a genre you haven't explored before/for a long time.

Bundu (situated between South Africa and Mozambique) - Title: Read a book with a PLACE NAME in the title, such as the name of a country, state, city, town, etc.

This sounds like fun. Thanks!

MaryG2E (goodreadscommaryg2e) | 934 comments I've been out of action lately with a nasty eye infection. My usual 2-3 books a week has been reduced to 2-3 chapters! So I'm struggling to make the deadline for the September Australian Author Challenge. I've decided to take on the October challenge using only those books which are already to hand and fit the set criteria:

1). Geographical Setting: Read a book set in a different country than your own.
Corrag by Susan Fletcher Corrag by Susan Fletcher, set in Scotland

4). Title: Read a book with a PLACE NAME in the title:
Turn Right at Machu Picchu Rediscovering the Lost City One Step at a Time by Mark Adams Turn Right at Machu Picchu: Rediscovering the Lost City One Step at a Time by Mark Adams

5).Reader’s Choice: Read any book of your choice.
The Martian by Andy Weir The Martian by Andy Weir, which takes the concept of travel to a whole new dimension!

Mez Ok, I have chosen! Only three for me though as there is no way I'll be able to read 5 books in a month!

1) Death Masks by Jim Butcher, set in Chicago.

2) The Martian by Andy Weir. I never read science fiction so this will be a first for me!

3) The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson. The cover on my copy is an airport. Is this acceptable?

Don't be sorry Merryn...it's OK. If you remember when linking; to get the exact edition you are reading, put in the ISBN when you do your search - that way you will always have the copy that's in your hand:)

message 79: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments Question: Is Jonathon Swift's classic Gulliver's Travels eligible in anything other than #5 Reader's Choice?

It's the ABC's Book Club classic selection for their Oct 4 program, which makes it appealing. It does have "travel" in the title, and it's a fantasy, so I can fit it in under unusual genres.

However, I was thinking of using John Steinbeck's Travels with Charley: In Search of America for much the same reasons. I don't usually read travelogues either.

Also, is there a thread for the ABC's Book Club?

Depends on your copy of course, but one I just saw had a sailing ship on the cover - so COVER. Also travel to different country would fit too...lots there Patty!

Mine is an e-book with the old cover with the original title
"Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World", so I reckon that can count as a place - lots of places.

Okay, that's one decision. :)

From anywhere you like Vivian:) It'll be listed somewhere here and if it's not I can add it for you. But it doesn't need to be on your Goodreads TBR if that's what you're asking;)

Sharon wrote: "How do I update my list when I have completed reading a book and written a review?"

Hi Sharon:) go back to your original list and click on "edit" down in the bottom corner. You can then rate the book read, strike it out; adjust it that way:)

For information on how to do those things, click here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... and you'll find the help you need:)

Any further questions, don't hesitate!

I go back to my list and edit it. I usually cross through the title then add my star rating.
