Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) Hello, Ashley......we are so glad you joined us. It appears that you have an eclectic taste in books so why not browse the home page and find some topics that will be of interest.

History Book Club Home Page

There are many other folders where you can discuss topics that interest you.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box). It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how books that you mention should look:

Thomas Jefferson The Art of Power by Jon Meacham by Jon Meacham Jon Meacham

Additionally, if you mention an author, be sure an cite them in the manner below:

David McCullough David McCullough
Antonia Fraser Antonia Fraser

Brad Sarver | 2 comments Hello! My name is Brad and I live just south of the Kansas City Metro area. I'm a Special Education teacher and have been in the profession for 21 years. Since I was a young child I have always enjoyed reading about the past and the great people who lived before us. Especially enjoy reading about the great men who have become President of our wonderful nation, the USA. I've started a collection of presidential biographies that I have read.

Also enjoy reading historical fiction, Christian fiction, and religion genres. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this group

Although I have had a Goodreads account for the last 4 years, it's been the last 3 months that I have actively used it.

Chelsea Morris | 1 comments Hi all and Happy New Year! I'm Chelsea and I'm really excited to be a part of this group. I love history, all of it. I'm more familiar with WWII era European history. One of my (many) goals for 2016 is to expand my knowledge, so I'm looking forward to reading books on other historical topics. Any and all recommendations would be welcome!

Mihai (mihai_dumitru) | 2 comments Hello, everyone! My name is Mihai, 34 yo former professional cyclist, journalist & PR from Bucharest, Romania, now working in the corporate world. As an author wannabe, I'm primarily interested in ancient Rome and Greece, especially in 2nd century AD, and to a lesser degree in WW1.

Tabitha Neufeld | 1 comments Hello group! My name is Tabitha and I have been teaching history for about 20 years here in Nevada. Every year as my students study the different topics in class, I try to read a book that matches that unit to give the students some more detail and in depth information.

Some years I am busier than others and don't get to as many books as I would like, and other years I do a decent job keeping up with the class!

During my breaks I usually read more current historical books from the timeline I just won't get to in class. Or from a subject matter other than my classes. Seventh and Eighth grade American History can be limiting somewhat.

Thanks for welcoming me to the group, Vicki! I'm familiar with the book/author feature, since I am already active on the Romania group here on Goodreads. I'm glad that I'm in a good company of history lovers and I hope to learn as much as I can contribute to this friendly community.

Barbara Ulfman | 1 comments Dear fellow readers,
My name is Barbara Ulfman. I live in an small community in the Netherlands. I have always been interested in history (more specific Italian renaissance and modern history) I read as much as I can. Sometimes it's a challenge to find spare time (with two children, a job and some running goals). Last year I became a member of Goodreads. Until now I was a bit of a passive member. But I'd like to participate more, to explore new topics and find out about the opinions of the groupmembers....

Carolina Sampaio | 1 comments Hello everyone! I'm here to introduce myself and let you know something about me!
Well, my name is Carolina Sampaio, 18 years old, from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil
This city is called the "Land of Carnival and Beaches" here in Brazil, but I do not like this stereotype... It's not like that.
I'm a little girl who wants to know about the human and society, about the growth and declines of power and territories throughout the history and understand how we got here in 2016. Well, I have a long way to go, but I'll like the walk!

Cheers!!!

message 519: by Mareike (new)

Mareike Hi!

My name is Mareike and I'm from Germany. I'm most interested in British, French and Scandinavian history. Furthermore I love books written in the 1920s and 30s, especially books by Scott Fitzgerald :)
Can you recommend any good books (not more then 1000 pages) about French history up to 1900?
Best wishes!

message 520: by James (new)

James | 1 comments Hello, my name is Jim from Memphis, TN, and history, especially military history, is one of my interests. World War Two, specifically the European Theater, is my favorite topic, but any history topic can interest me. I recently became interested in the American Civil War after visiting the Gettysburg battlefield. We are planning on visiting Normandy later this year where I will be able to make my dream of visiting the DDay invasion beaches come true.

message 521: by Isidor (new)

Isidor Hi, my name is Martin, I'm from Switzerland. I'm especially interested in "big picture" non-fiction - right now I'm reading Civilization: The West and the Rest - and books about church history. When it comes to fiction, I'm still figuring out what I actually like... historical thrillers about WWII and later periods maybe?

Daniel Barrios (gothdani) I'm Daniel, 17 yo and a prospective college student in Toronto, Canada. I'm of Latin American origin, so I speak Spanish, and I am slowly achieving fluency in Mandarin Chinese, and retain some basic amounts of middle school French.

I'm interested in the Cold War, Chinese history, and Latin American history. I also enjoy reading books on political history and political theory, and am currently reading
Political Order and Political Decay From the Industrial Revolution to the Globalization of Democracy by Francis Fukuyama by Francis Fukuyama

I hope to learn from the more experienced members of this group and to expand my knowledge on history!

Samanta (almacubana) Hello, Daniel. Welcome to the History book club!

Based on your introduction, I suggest you check out these threads:

The Cold war,
Philosophy and Politics,
China and
History of Latin America

I suggest you check out our homepage and see what else we have to offer. You can access the main page through this link:

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author.

Political Order and Political Decay From the Industrial Revolution to the Globalization of Democracy by Francis Fukuyama by Francis Fukuyama Francis Fukuyama

Leigh Edwards (leigh0906) Hi! My name is Leigh, and I'm currently living in North Carolina. I work at a historic site that specializes in colonial history. I like reading pretty much anything about North Carolina history, the Jacksonian Era, the Civil Rights Movement, and the rise of the conservatism in the US. I look forward to discovering new books and areas of history with y'all!

Larry I'm Larry and live in Northern Virginia. I am interested in European history, East Asian history, American history (especially the early colonial period), and the history of technology. ) I also like fiction, especially mysteries.) I have a Ph.D. in economic history and am retired from the U.S. government. I have a lot of time to read when we aren't watching our two granddaughters. After watching them, I sometimes don't have much energy left for reading, but that's quite alright!

Ty Beard | 1 comments Howdy all. I'm Ty and I live in East Texas. I'm a lifelong history buff -- mostly 19-20th century military history. I occasionally drift into the history of "big things" -- the Panama Canal, transcontinental railroad, Suez Canal, etc. Have a B.S. in History; stopped working on my PhD and went to law school instead.

Melanie Booth | 1 comments Hello!
My name is Melanie and I am 23 from Melbourne, Australia.
I finished my degree in Archaeology and Advanced Japanese a few years ago, currently work in Administration, and have continued reading widely in archaeology and Japanese history (Meiji, Edo, Jomon). Especially partial to books on ancient battle tactics and strategies, have a soft spot for the Byzantine Empire, and enjoy the resurgence of World War code breaking novels and movies.
Nice to meet you all :)
