Hi, my name is Lisa and I am a 23 year old Dutch History student. Since I was a young child I've been obsessed with reading, devouring nearly every piece of reading material I could get my hands on. I could spent hours at the library (still do!) and my visits were so often, the staff knew my name and librarycard number by heart.

Loving History was only a logical result of my bibliophilic ways. History and learning how the pieces of the world fit together in time and place became a fascination, that would eventually lead me to choose history as my major.

I hope to get inspired and to find some new interesting reads by joining this group. I also love to participate in discussions and swap ideas and theories with like minded people.

Hi, I'm Tom from St. Louis. Pleased to find a History group here on goodreads.com and to make all of your acquaintance. I started reading books of an historical nature nearly 50 years ago when I worked my way through the Dan Frontier series of children's books by William Hurley featuring tales of colonial America's wild frontier. As I grew, I encountered many more works that spurred a continuing fascination with history: Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo by Ted W. Lawson, The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara, and The Guns of October by Barbara Tuchman to name but a few. While I do tend to lean toward accounts of American and military history, the truth is that I haven't found any facets of history yet that have failed to grab my attention. And so it is with great anticipation that I look forward to the reviews and recommendations of so many like-minded folks.

Hello. My name is Tom and I am from the United States. I study Latin Syria during the Middle Ages, more specifically the Kingdom of Jerusalem up until the end of the third phase of crusading in 1193. But my interests are not only limited to that, and I will enjoy pretty much anything to do with history, except for Victorian-era Britain, because those people ruined the world and I like to just ignore them when I think about history. That was a joke...mostly.

Hi, my name is Zenon and I live and work in Edmonton, AB, Canada.

My interests include Ukrainian History, East European History, and World War 2 History. I also enjoy Historical Fiction especially from the previous 2 categories. One of my favourite novels of all time is "Taras Bulba" by Nikolai Gogol. I also enjoy works by authors such as Michael Curtis Ford and David L. Robbins.

I am an ex-Brit living in Alberta, Canada. I love reading about and studying history. I have mainly focussed on British Medieval History and Tudor/Stuart times, with some Ancient World History. Recently I have diverged into Canadian, Victorian and WWI history. My reading is somewhat eclectic at times and when I find something interesting in whatever I am reading I will do further research on that topic/person/event.

My name is Jeff, I live in Los Angeles and I'm a non-fiction junkie. I love reading all types of non-fiction, especially history. Lately I've been reading a lot about the industrial revolution, I find it fascinating how all these industries which we think of as old and antiquated like railroads and coal were founded by people who were as cutting edge and rule breaking as a Steve Jobs or an Elon Musk. I also work in documentary and I'm continually fascinated by people.

Hi, I'm Greg - I'm a British public historian who predominantly works in the UK TV & Film industry on historical projects, such as the BBC children's comedy show Horrible Histories. Having trained as an archaeologist & a historian, I'm very much a historical generalist as comfortable with the Stone Age as I am in the 20th century, though my interests tend towards social and cultural history. I read about 200 books per year for my job, but I'm keen to discover more world history and to increase my knowledge of America's fascinating past. Thanks!

Hello, I'm Jenn and new to this board. Been a reader and writer ever since I could do both. I'm always reading-multiple books at once-and will read a little bit of everything, but history is one of my favorite topics. Right now I'm focusing on re-learning the American history and government that I never paid attention to in school. Also interested in British history/monarchy. My dad also got me heavily into Kennedys and the Civil War. Looking forward to getting some good recommendations! Thanks

Hi, I'm Dave Howard, an attorney in Round Rock, Texas. Age 65, born and raised in Houston, and always wanting to learn about the past to inform my knowledge of the present.I just joined and am trying to figure things out a bit.
My historical interests range from American history and biography to Middle East history, science history, military history, sports history, and whatever is written by some of my favorite authors, including William Manchester, American Caesar , Hampton Sides (currently reading In the Kingdom of Ice, ), Walter Isaacson, The Innovators, , John Feinstein, A Civil War, , David McCullough, John Adams, and The Wright Brothers and many others.

Probably the best books I've read on Middle East history are The Age of Sacred Terror by Daniel Benjamin and Steven Simon, a detailed primer on the growth of radical Islam, and The Siege of Mecca , by Yaroslav Trofimov, which explores the consequences to the region of an attempted takeover of the Grand Mosque by radicals in 1979.

I've enjoyed reading about WWII and especially the rise of Nazism and the conditions prevalent in Europe during those dark days. The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William Shirer is the necessary starting point, IMHO.

My first sports love is baseball, so I've read many biographies of teams, players and coaches from the past. Babe, the Legend Comes to Life , by Robert Creamer is a favorite.

And of course, since I do this reading for pleasure, I love good writing. Not florid or overly detailed, and not excessively academic in tone but more in a journalistic vein.
