Phillip Shattan | 1 comments Hi, my name is Phillip, from the USA. Interested in East Asian History, European History, Historiography, 20th century history, and always open to new topics! Looking forward to reading with all of you.

Rod (rod99) | 1 comments Hello all

My name is Rod Anderson. Born in Baltimore, MD, and have lived in the South (Pensacola), the West(LA), and now in the Midwest (MI).

I am a physicist by training (Ph.D in experimental astrophysics), and spent most of my career in defense and aerospace. I am now retired.

I have had no formal training in history, though I did teach Naval History in the Navy for a few years. Popular military and naval histories are my sweet spot (such as Ian Toll's Pacific Crucible trilogy). Mainstream history and biography are of interest as well; I am currently reading David McCulloch's John Adams, which I am very much enjoying.

A sub genre of great interest is the techical treatment of historical weapons and systems. One favorite of mine in this area is Price's Instruments of Darkness.

Brandi Tooley | 4 comments Hello!
My name is Brandi, I'm from Colorado, however I am currently living abroad for six months in Germany. I'm a student/nanny and have always wanted to join a book club however not many are in my area and fit my schedule. While I read almost every genre I have a particular passion for historical fiction, historical non-fiction, and political books. I am currently reading How Soccer Explains the World by Franklin Foer. Some of my favorite history or historical fiction authors include Hillary Mantel, Erik Larson, and Reza Aslan. I love finding new authors and books though! I look forward to participating

message 807: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 1 comments Hello, everyone. My name is Stephanie and I am 21 years old, and I am a Chemical Engineering student in Peru. I enjoy reading since I was a kid, and I have always read whatever I could find at home or from my friends -which was, mainly, science fiction or fantasy books-. I would say that my history background comes, basically, from high school, but lately I have been getting some history books from the library and they have catch my attention. My interests are mostly on Peruvian History, but I really enjoy learning about different cultures and global history. Lately, I've been reading about Japan and England. I joined this group because I thought I could find some good recommendations and people with whom I can comment the history books that I read. English is not my native language, so please tell me if I misspelled something so that I can learn from it. I'm really glad to be here.

Hello everyone,

My name is Cody and I'm joining from Houston, TX. I've been on the site for a number of years now but am just now starting to actively participate. My interest in history casts a pretty wide net. I'll read anything from antiquity up to recent events. Personal favorite authors are TJ Stiles, Hampton Sides and Erik Larson. Excited to be a part of the group!

message 810: by Andy (new)

Andy Damico | 1 comments Good Morning all
I've had a life long passion for history, joining the Navy because of my interest in Naval history and majoring in history while in college, with an emphasis on colonial history overall and civil war naval history. My particular interests in naval history are WW2 in particular, and WW1 and the revolutionary war through the Napoleonic era to some extent. I continue my interest in U.S. Colonial and Revolutionary War history to a lesser extent as well. I look forward to sharing any interesting reads that the group may have. Thanks for having me.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box). It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

Hi Everyone! I'm Corbie from the north-east of England. I've been interested in history since I was a kid and studied archaeology and history at University, specialising in early medieval England. I'm now working in catering and hospitality, although I'm still a history nut. Not just medieval England though - I'm fascinated by the past in general and am always looking out for new things to learn about other places and time periods. Thanks for having me xx

Tiago Fontes | 1 comments Hello. My name is Tiago Fontes. I am Portuguese so since very young I have been embedded in the history of Portugal country that existed since 1143. I have an Archaeology degree & Post Grad in Geoarchaeology. My favourite subjects are Pre-history, Bronze Age e military history. Despite not working in Archaeology anymore I followed the subject through reading. Adding to the above a taste for contemporary history I have also dwelled in Biographies, politics, espionage & philosophy. I am hoping to discover new books through the club on this subjects and participate on discussions on matters that interest me. Thanks for the add.

jj Hello all,

My name is Joanna and currently writing from Canada. I've always been an avid reader though haven't been leisure reading as much as I want the past few years. For the most part I'm interested in anything and everything and have (hopefully) garnered better time-management skills to balance reading more and life responsibilities (I'm sure I'm not the only one whose dream vacation is being holed up in a library with a comfortable chair and non-existent bladder needs).

My interests are incredibly varied from European history (really weird, specific fascination with Catherine de Medici) to Asian history (most recently Philippine and Taiwanese) and science history (past few years of stagnant leisure reading due to pursuing BSc. Psych, which is also the root of my interest in the history of science).

I'm looking forward to be part of this group! :)

Walter | 1 comments Hello everyone. I am Walter, new to the group.

I love history. I love the fact that even though events take place that we can still discuss them and interpret the same event through many different lenses.

Currently reading lots of books about the founding of our country, the United States. This is one period in history that fascinates me the most. I love the history of the West where I focus more on Native American history. I also enjoy United States history from 1945 to the present.

I have taken an interest in learning more about the Middle East, particularly Iraq and Afghanistan. I served in both countries and even though I was a "part" of the war, I am still trying to understand both of them.

I look forward to reading books that you recommend and discussing them. Thanks for having me.

Brian Hi all,

My name is Brian. I live in the U.S., in Seattle, WA to be exact. I'm currently reading a great book titled, The Ball is Round: A Global History of Soccer by David Goldblatt. I'm about halfway through and reading the section on soccer during WW II Europe. It seems to be kindling a desire to read some books about WW II. I'm most interested in the social and political aspects of the war, as opposed to military history. Broad strokes to begin with, perhaps followed by books that delve deeper. If anyone has any recommendations on books I should read I would appreciate it. Thanks!

I really enjoy history and non-fiction books and would like to read even more of those categories (which is one of those weird things where you actually enjoy doing something and then still don't do it?!).
I studied art history as well as American studies and because of the latter am still quite interested in American history, even though I'm from Germany.
Right now I like to read about historical explorers and expeditions, like Alexander von Humboldt or the Franklin expedition.
I'm looking forward to discover new topics and books with this group!

Maria B (mariabartholomew) | 1 comments Hello! I'm Maria, I'm from Canada and I majored in classical civilizations in university so that's my main interest, and my specific focus is on the Hasmonean period in Judea and the Roman occupation. Outside of academic interests I also have a personal obsession with the late Victorian period, the setting of many fine novels and dramas! This is the era when many famous folktales and songs were collected, which is another of my hobbies--my perfect summer involves chasing folk music festivals all over the UK. These are my particular interests, but really history from any period interests me, as well as historiography!

Yasha Jain | 1 comments HI,
I am Yasha, from India. I have always had a fascination/obsession with reading history. I feel like it gives us a sense of present and knwoing the culmination of events that led us to be here helps in understanding the world better.
Primarily, I have focused on Indian history and would like to diversify here !

Welcome to the group, Daniele! We have many different topics being discussed here so please feel free to explore and jump in.

I suggest you check out our homepage and see what else we have to offer. You can access it through this link:

History Book Club main page

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box). It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.
