Glad you joined us, Maria. This is the place for history lovers of all sorts.

Based on your post, you may find something to interest you in this topic:

Ancient history

I suggest you check out our homepage and see what else we have to offer. You can access it through this link:

History Book Club main page

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box). It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how books that you mention should look:

Michael James (dacoronm) | 1 comments Hello everyone! My name is Michael, I was born in the Philippines and moved to the Bay Area when I was 2 years old. The Bay Area was a fantastic place to grow up in. I was exposed to many diverse cultures while attending school. Making many friends who, like myself moved to the US to take advantage of many of the liberties that it has to offer. Learning many different religions and traditions they all practice, was really fun expanding my knowledge on what's really out there. Not many people get that luxury growing up and experiencing this kind of childhood. Long story short I graduated high school and did college for about year until I decided to enlist in the Air Force. I have been serving for almost 8 years now and I've had a blessed career. Living in Japan for 2 years, UK for 2 years and Korea for 1. Which further added through my journey living and really experiencing those cultures first hand. Right now I'm currently in Oklahoma. I try and read at least 3 books a month if my schedule permits. My reading list hasn't been fully updated, but maybe when I get a chance I will put most of the books I have already finished. Thank you all for reading.

Hello Rosemary - what we need on this thread is a sincere introduction which tells us a little about yourself and why you are interested in history (what genres) etc. And anything else that you would like us to know so that we can know you better.

This thread is NOT about posting that you are interested in the book giveaway. For that you need to post that you will agree to the t's and c's of the book offer. Do you agree to read, post and discuss the book with the group following the syllabus and schedule? Do you agree to write a brief review of the book (your own unbiased opinion) and post it on the Book as a Whole thread? If so, then post that you will abide by the t's and c's on this thread:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Once you have done that - then you can move to step two - send me a PM with your full name, your full address and zip - to Bentley.

And when you get around to it if you want to be considered for all of our free book offers - then come back to this thread and tell us a little something about yourself - does not have to be long but something that makes us want to get to know you better and talk with you about all of these wonderful books. We are glad you are here and are alway available to give you some helpful hints on how to move forward and get the most out of the group.

Regards,

Bentley

S.D. Livingston Hi everyone. My name is Sandra and I'm from Toronto, Canada. I've always loved historical fiction and movies, but discovered to my pleasant surprise that my interest in history went far beyond that. After starting a BA in communications and English, I realized that the courses I was enjoying the most were my history electives--switched to a history major and haven't looked back!

One of my favourite areas is British history, as well as WWI and WWII. I'm glad to have found this group here on Goodreads, and I look forward to getting to know everyone and sharing some great reads.

Barbara | 1 comments Hello, I'm Barbara. I read everything except dry pedantics and bodice-rippers. My love for history includes everything from pre-Biblical through modern times, my favorites being the royal bloodlines of England, the Civil War, both World Wars, and anything to do with the American South, where I've lived all my life. If I don't have a book to read, I read cookbooks, which I collect.

Catbird | 11 comments It's always difficult to distill your life interests into a short intro post but I'll give it a try. I'm on the far side of 50, grew up in Michigan, and now live in East Tennessee. (If you're familiar with TN history, you'll know why East is capitalized. ;)) My lifelong fascination with history goes hand in hand with my love for reading. I'm a veteran and have lived and traveled in Europe and all over the U.S. In each different place that I've lived, I've tried to become familiar with the local history. I also do extensive genealogical research and have found that reading about world and U.S. history provides the necessary context in which to place both family and local history. History also provides perspective for the ideas and events which currently make up our world. My interests are varied and eclectic, and I look forward to being introduced to books and ideas that I may not have found on my own.

I'm currently reading Jacksonland: President Andrew Jackson, Cherokee Chief John Ross, and a Great American Land Grab by Steve Inskeep.

And I have The Substance Of Civilization by Stephen L. Sass waiting in the wings.

Sid Singh | 2 comments Hello. My name is Sid.

I recently re-discovered Goodreads after being gone for quite some time from social media. I am a psychologist by training and trade but have always enjoyed reading history.

I think my favorite eras in history are 18th, 19th, and early 20th century (i.e, particularly, WW1, the interwar years, and WW2 era). Though, I also enjoy reading more broadly. I think the only works I history I have avoided are biographies and the American Civil War. I tend to also enjoy reading 'Counter-narratives," i.e., Napoleonic history that is not from the British perspective and AWI works that are not from the American perspective.

Anyway, look forward to expanding my horizons through this group, though the size and number of discussion is a bit intimidating. I hope to do some buddy reads and join some group reads.

Thanks!

Glad you joined us, Danniel. This is the place for the avid history buff.

Laura Kosloff (laurakosloff) | 1 comments Hello fellow readers,
I'm a lawyer by training but like to think I have broader interests! I love history, especially US history (Revolutionary period and Civil War era are my favorites), ancient Rome/Greece, and European medieval history. Why those periods, I don't know. Probably got those interests from my now-adult son who has always had a fascination with those periods. I love Constitutional issues -- there's the lawyer part, I guess! I like historical fiction as well as "the real thing."

Patricia (grammapat) | 5 comments Hi. I am Patricia and I live in Dallas, Texas. My favorite groups are History and Historical Novels, and I also read four-star fiction. I am a retired special ed teacher and was a secretary before I went back to school and got my degree at a rather advanced age. Reading is both my favorite activity and my most important method of preserving my brain cells.

Kelli (kelli_12) Hello, my name is Kelli. I'm from The New England region of the United States. I'm an environmental scientist who enjoys reading about history when I'm not working. I love reading about the past and comparing it to today's world.

I grew up in a house with a mother who is an American Civil War fanatic and who was constantly telling me facts about battles, the government, and social values of the time period as I grew up. As I got older I became fascinated with my own time period, the 1930s and 1940s.

By joining this group, I would like to branch out and learn about history in various parts of the world.
