I am from England and am currently an Art student at University. I absolutely love learning about history even from a young age, in particular the Napoleonic wars, The Persian Empire, Political history and Russian history, in particular The Romanov dynasty. I look forward to seeing what people have to recommend. Its nice to meet you all.

Hello fellow history lovers! My name is Matthew or Matt (I don't really care), and I am excited to be apart of this group. I am a recently separated veteran of the military, and currently a student studying social work and art history. I have always loved history, particularly WW2 (mainly the European theater), but I also enjoy art history, WW1, and biographies. As far back as I can remember, I have always been interested in learning about history. I am looking forward to meeting like people here, and sharing our thoughts.

Jacqi (historychix2013) Hi everyone! My name is Jacqi and I am currently a Master's student in Library Science and an elementary school aide.

I love all times in History, but I think that my favorite historical (fiction) books are the Jack Howard book series by David Gibbins. Otherwise, I love just reading, which hopefully will happen this summer but grad school and work happens.

Can't wait to see more on here!

I love reading books that educate me and I do it for both the pleasure in it and to add something to my knowledge. I am presently reading Discovery of India as a History kick-off and I would like to know more on how to develop the skill to understand historical events and periods.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box). It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how books that you mention should look:

Nick Jellicoe | 1 comments Good day, My name is Nick Jellicoe.

I wanted to be a photo-journalist but was lured to New York to work in advertising instead. I've worked with some great companies - Rolex, Bvlgari and American Express - to name a few. At Rolex I ran global communications for 10 years. Now I'm retired I've taken up my interest in history. I grew up in the UK and studied politics at York University and at the "Institut des Etudes Politiques" in Paris. My continued study of (very rudimentary, unfortunately, HSK 2) Chinese reflected my college and family interests in China though I've had to curtail it lately. I am married to a Peruvian, naturalised American, Patricia, and have two wonderful daughters, Zoë and Francesca. Zoë's an accomplished editor in Dublin while Francesca has been studying classical chinese and Asian & Middle Eastern Art and Archeology in China and London.

I'm particularly interested in British maritime history but also, of course Incan, Spanish, German history in general. I look forward to being part of this group.

Sara the Librarian (museoffire) Hi there History Book Club glad to be aboard! I'm a relative newcomer to historical nonfiction though I've been a terrible historical novelholic for years. Part of what drew me here was a marvelous non fiction book I just finished about the Hapsburg empire just prior to World War I and its sparked my interest in learning all the stuff they blatantly ignored in my woefully inadequate US education.

I'm a reference librarian by trade, a former treader of boards, a mother/gamekeeper to two trolls who occasionally do an excellent imitation of human boys, an occasional writer, constant reader, and the wife of an outstanding artist.

Post from Jonathan Fryer:

Hi, my name is Jonathan Fryer and I am a ....., lecturer and broadcaster from London, England. I graduated in Oriental Studies (Chinese with Japanese) from Oxford University in 1973 and for many years my reading ........., was largely China-focussed. However, in 1990-1991 I was part of the BBC's 24-hour rolling news coverage of the First Gulf War and since then my interests have been centred mainly on the Middle East and North Africa. As well as history, I love reading biographies and memoirs and am passionate about both languages and travel.

Ann Watkins (topaintwithwords) | 1 comments Hello! My name is Ann Watkins, and I live in the Overbrook section of Philadelphia, PA. I have been reading since I was 2; and now that I am disabled and home all day, I spend many hours online reading, reading from my personal library, or at the local library. My interest in history began with a friendship with a member of my congregation who was a history buff. He introduced me to Barbara Tuchman, whose books portrayed historical figures as if they were people we would have known. Then I went on read the Story of Civilization by the Durants; Norah Lofts, Sharon Kaye Penman, and others. I look forward to associating with others who love history as much or more than I. Thank you for allowing me to join your club.

My curiosity of history was began in my childhood by reading encyclopedias about historical characters. So now, I have a library with full of history books. I am really glad to find this group. Also, I am happy to see people who take history serious.

I am very excited to hear from you about books i have never hear before. I think I will learn many things from this group.

I am intrested in each period and subjects of history such as history of warfare, history of sciences, history of religions and natural history because to see the whole picture you need to know each period and subject of history as far as possible. But specifically I am intrested in;
- World war II
- Crusades
- History of middle east
- Genghis Khan, Tamerlane and Attilla the hun
- History of geology
and
- Ataturk

I am waiting for your recommendations. Thank you!

John Adams by David McCullough by David McCullough David McCullough

Denz Rui (denice001) | 1 comments Hi! My nickname's Denz. I'm an anime, manga, webtoon, light novel and novel enthusiast. Actually, I'll read anything in any form as long as the story's worth reading.

I'm a sucker for history. I often read historical fiction, classics and fiction. As long as the story doesn't revolve around romance then I'm good to go.
