Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) A warm welcome, Amit and I hope you find much here to further develop your love of history. You may want to browse our home page for areas of interest.

Home Page

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box). It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book that you mention should look:

Hello everyone, I am a long time lover of books and the worlds they have transported me to. As a graduate student, I don't have a lot of time for pleasure reading and instead have been stuck reading volumes that I would not have picked up on my own. With that, I have developed an appreciation for new genres and have grown both as a student and as a person. Being a student of history, I can not wait to meet everyone and become as involved as possible with this group.

Gema | 1 comments Hey everyone! My name is Gema and I live in Georgia. I've loved reading since I was a young girl and it's probably the only thing I'm good at. I'm trying to get into reading more history books and I am hoping this group will help. I have always been interested in 1800-1900's European History. Like, how life was like and its society back then. Things like that. But I'm interested in anything history really. Thanks for having me :)

Ching Keishing | 1 comments hello everyone, it's good to be here. my name is ching keishing, from Delhi, India.
I've always been a history lover, every since high school. But now I look at history from a different perspective. I don't know the basis to distinguish facts from fiction. there are different authors writing different facts and outcome for the same topic. it's silly of me to say this, but it all started last month when i read Da Vinci Code by dan brown. which is a complete contrast to a christian stand point, and on top of that we have quantum mechanics for this Semester.
it's like the perfect combo. Indian style, Buy 2, get 1 free. jokes apart, please suggest.

Ping Liu | 1 comments Hello, my name is Ping Liu. The following lists some history books that I have read, and they may also indicate I have attempted to grasp the overall picture of a given subject:

On the subject of the world history, I have read E. H. Gombrich's "A Little History of the World," Neil MacGregor's "A History of the World in 100 Objects," and John H. Arnold's "History A Very Short Introduction." Would someone kindly suggest a next level book in the world history?

On the European history, I read John Merriman's "A History of Modern Europe." I enjoyed the book but found difficulties to memerize the key events. Can one suggest a summary book of the European modern history or a timeline?

On art, I have read E. H. Gombrich's "The Story of Art," Charles Harrison's "An Introduction to Art." Is Janson's History of Art my next book?

On aesthetics, Christopher Kul-Want & Piero's "Introducing Aesthetics." I studied the bibliography of the book but found myself lost. I also checked out the Oxford Handbook of Aesthetics, but am concerned that I may not be ready for it. I am grateful for an experienced to suggest a next level book.

Best reads,
Ping

I believe we learn so much from history and feel that knowing history is to know where we go as a people and as an individual.

As a Native American history show me what is possible for the near future.

Last, history is a story of flawed human beings and some will do well and some will do some very horrible things.

This is how books that you mention should look:

A Little History of the World by E.H. Gombrich by E.H. Gombrich E.H. Gombrich
A history of the world in 100 objects by Neil MacGregor by Neil MacGregor Neil MacGregor
History A Very Short Introduction by John H. Arnold by John H. Arnold (no photo)

Gerti | 1 comments Hi everyone im Gerti in my teens and i have read some novels by Phillipa Gregory and im currently on Safrianos' A Global History. Sorry i still have no idea how to cite. Im really interested in how human nature works in a long string of consequences that seems to be irrelevant. Thats how i grew attracted to history and i think id stick around.
