Hi Ulla, Am hoping to visit Denmark in the not to distant future. I have taken a couple of courses in social anthropology and found them to be some of the most interesting courses I have ever taken.

Hello, my name is Patricia, I'm from Mexico, and, just like many others here, really enjoy reading History books, History in general but Ancient History in particular, and Ancient Near East History to be more specific; I started in my middle twenties to read Greco-Roman Historians, everything I could find, and fell in love with it, Ancient Greco-Roman History I mean, although, with time, I started to get curious about the many other cultures in the Mediterranean, Egypt at first, the Phoenicians, and then, when in this path I ran into Mesopotamia (Sumer, Akkad, Babylon, Assyria), Ancient Syria, Anatolia, Iran, etc., I think I found my true love :) .

I like to read many other things, novels, short-stories, occasionally Science, but I’m particularly fond of Poetry, I barely do anything else besides reading and writing, and it’s never enough...

Hello and good day to everyone. My name is Ann and I am so happy to have found this book club. I loving reading period novels and historical pieces. I'm particularly fond of US Civil War, The Great War and World War II books. I'm anxious to see what others are reading. I regularly buy books on Amazon (love Prime), I have two Kindles (I got my first when my husband and I were living in Shanghai, China and there was scarce English books to read - Just got my Kindle Fire for Christmas and I'm still trying to figure it out) I also reserve books from my local libraries. I live in one county and work in another so I reserve from both. I scan Goodreads for new and exciting works of fiction. Thank you for allowing me to join and I hope to meet some of you in person someday.

My name is Dave, I'm from Central Illinois, and currently living the good life in S. Korea with my lovely wife who is a master at cross stitching.
Been a voracious reader since I was a young lad on a wide variety of genre's and history has been my favorite. I find it fascinating to read about the ancient, the not so old the current histories of nations, people and cultures, and what they did right and wrong.
I'm also into films/going to the movies, walking and hiking, and giving folks a helping hand.

Hello, my name is Jack, and I am from Wichita, Kansas. Ever since I was a kid I have loved The Lord of the Rings and this made me a big fan of medieval warfare. In more recent times I have been into Game of Thrones, Paradox games and the Total Wars series. I have always loved history but I never took out the time read about it or it all so I am trying to improve that. I have found a love for ancient history, particularly Rome during the republic. Hey everyone! My name's Josh, and I'm ao glad I found this group! I'm a HUGE history and political buff, and I'm happy to have found a community that I can fit in with here on Goodreads! I don't have a lot of friends, so I'm looking for places where I can just have conversations about the things I love, in this case history :)

I'm a 24 year old college grad from New Hampshire (USA.) Hopefully within the next few years I'll be able to go back to school for my Master's, although I'm still deciding between concentrations. I'm stuck between Political Science, Political Philosophy, American History, and Constitutional Law.

I think the reason I love reading historical fiction so much is because it's harder to relate to personally which makes it easier to connect with the stories as a whole...if that makes sense! I'm currently reading works by Ann Rinaldi, albeit their younger reading level. I just love the way she tells a story!

Anyway, I'm happy to have found this group, and I hope to engage as much as possible...although I may slip up on some of the participation requirements due to my ADHD. Just know that I will be trying my best! :)

My name is Andrew. I'm from Illinois, USA.

Since childhood I have been interested in history. During elementary school, I loved the founding of America and the history of the War of Independence. Later in school, I focused on 20th century American history. I was especially interested in WW II, the Cold War, JFK, and the wars in Korea and Vietnam.

I served in the Marine Corps; since then, my interests have taken an even stronger military slant. I have heightened my study of Central Asia. The Great Game by Peter Hopkirk is a favorite. Looking forward to reading Eastern Approaches by Fitzroy MacLean.

I've read The Generals by Thomas Ricks and American Caesar; it led to greatly different views of Doug MacArthur. I'm looking forward to Terrible Terry Allen by Gerald Astor. What a good-hearted, effective general.

I've also really enjoyed Street Without Joy by Bernard Fall, East of Chosin by Roy Appleman, The Hawk and the Dove by Nicholas Thompson, Politics of Heroin in Southeast Asia by Alfred McCoy, and Brute: The Life of Victor Krulak by Robert Coram.

Here are a few more books that I'm looking forward to:

I noted your interest in Russian history. Considering we are still involved in Afghanistan, I found The Great Game to be a fascinating history of Russia, as it was linked to Central Asia. Some parts of it felt more fiction that reality; it was excellent.
