Mary (maryschumacher) Hello Reem. I'm happy to welcome you to The History Book Club! I suspect that many of us here also have trouble tearing ourselves away from books. You're in good company. Can you tell us where you are located? It's always fun to know where our members are reading, as we have a large global community.

Our club has many different focus areas. Please take a look around at all our different offerings:

History Book Club main page

There are many other folders where you can discuss topics that interest you.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how books that you mention should look:

So many new members! Welcome, all. You might want to check out our 50 BOOKS IN 2017 section. You can see what other folks have been reading and may find great suggestions there. Or you may want to participate. (You don't actually have to reach the goal of 50 books, but it's nice to have something to shoot for.)

Reem - I noticed that you were from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and we are so happy to have you with us.

For our group members this shows us where Jeddah is:

"The next tallest building in the world - completion date planned for 2019 - Jeddah Tower or Kingdom Tower

We like to know city and country generally speaking so that we can add a map and photo. Thought it would be nice for all of our global members.

Prapti Panda (praptipanda) | 1 comments Hello everyone! I am Prapti- I live in western India and I am 16 years old. My favourite history subjects are ancient Egypt and the Pre-Columbian civilizations in South America. I love reading, especially history, because you get to learn so much about people. And studying people has always been a hobby of mine. Human psychology is indeed very intriguing, and it hasn't changed a lot over the years.
In more recent history, I love reading about the Communist movement, the two World Wars and the breaking of the USSR.

I am absolutely thrilled to have found this group! Can't wait to get started and thanks for having me!

Mary Ellen Woods (maryellen_woods) | 12 comments I am a retired high school history teacher. Although I taught many levels and subjects, my favorites were AP U.S. History and Civil War Studies, a course of my own design. These are my two main historical interests. I have been a Civil War reenactor since 1993.

I have always loved history. I read every biography in my school library when I was in the 4th grade and requested the librarian order the remainder of the series. My father was in the military, and we traveled across the U.S. four times by car, stopping at every historical marker and site along the way. Like Lt. Dan of Forrest Gump, I have ancestors who fought in every U.S. war going back to the Revolution, so military history is of great interest.

I joined the group to connect with others who read both non-fiction and fiction, mostly from the Civil War and Old West period. Thank you for allowing me into your group.

Your Obedient Servant,
Miss Mary Ellen

Welcome to the group! I just joined the group and they've been a nice group to discuss with.

There are a lot of military members in my family, and I also served. I LOVE military history. The Civil War is not my favorite conflict, but I am obsessed with World War II and the Cold War. Can't get enough. What are a few of your favorites, from the Civil War and from other wars?

Brianne Hello! My name is Brianne, but I prefer to be called Bri. I've been reading a lot of fictional books over the past years, but I really enjoyed history in high school as well as in a college course. I'm looking forward to trying to read more historical non fiction as something that I enjoy reading.

I really enjoy learning about art history - especially as related to WWII. Although I'm open to learning about other topics as well. Like I mentioned before, my goal is read more interesting non fiction and get out this current reading slump that i'm in!

message 2340: by Taylor Burrows (new)

Taylor Burrows | 27 comments Hello group;

My name is Taylor. I read a lot and most of what I enjoy are historical non-fictions. I am, however, new to goodreads. My realms of expertise are mostly in classical history ranging anywhere from ancient Mesopotamia or ancient China to Rome and Greece. I also read my fair share of American and war history (ancient and modern alike) as they attribute to my profession. Admittedly, historical weak spots are the middle and dark ages for which I intend to read further. Anyway, thanks for having me.

Taylor welcome - you have some great topical interest areas. One of our good admins will be along shortly to welcome you officially. In the meantime since we are a global group - could you share where you are reading from - city, state, USA or city, country somewhere around the globe. It is a lot of fun to know where everybody is from globally.

Do you mean a few of my favorite books or topics? Specific area of interests within the Civil War era would be Stuart's cavalry and medicine. WWII interests me as well since I had an uncle who was a medic with the 101st Airborne from D-day to the Battle of the Bulge when he was captured by a German panzer division. He was a POW from Dec 44 through May 45.
