Camille | 5 comments Hello all! My name is Camille and I love reading about history! I prefer reading non-fiction to fiction and history is just one of the topics that I enjoy reading about. I enjoy reading books about the ongoing Iraq/Afghanistan War, terrorism, and religion and politics. I look forward to getting recommendations from all of you and following the challenges that you have set. Thanks for allowing me to join!

Based on your areas of interest, you may want to explore the following focus areas:

Military - Iraq/ Afghanistan

History Book Club's Focus Areas

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box). It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is an example of how books you mention should look:

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) Hello, my name is Maggie. I've joined this group to try and expand my non-fiction reads. I would also like to learn more about world history, as I work at a library and we have plenty of patrons who borrow from that section. I would like to be able to discourse with them better at checkouts. :)

Ross Lewis | 1 comments Hi, my name is Ross. I am a semi-retired, mechanical engineer from Vancouver, Canada, with a broad range of reading interests from new scientific and technical developments to history. My historical interests are similarly broad from the ancient history of Asia and the Middle East to modern Canadian history.
My job has taken me all over the world and my travels have provided me with plenty of fodder for investigative historical reading.
I normally have at least 4-5 books on the go at once of different genres.
A couple of years ago I downloaded list of "must read" fiction books and have been ticking many of these off. I have not, however, found a good list of "must read" history books on different subjects. By joining this group, my aim is to identify the "must reads" of history. so far, I have seen a few to look at.

Lucy (lucyatoz) Hello all! I am Lucy, living in Somerset, England. I am in my late 30's and work as an assistant in a law office.

I love reading a wide range of books, particularly around English Tudor History, Roman History and biographies about historical figures. I also enjoy reading books in the genres of sci-fi, romance and philosophy. The only books I do not read are horror. I normally have two books on the go at once, one for lunch time reading and one for the bedside table!

I got The Romanovs 1613-1918 by Simon Sebag Montefiore The Romanovs: 1613-1918 by Simon Sebag Montefiore Simon Sebag Montefiore for Christmas and am looking forward to reading it and taking part in the associated thread on it in this group in January. It will be my first time taking part in a book club like this and I am very much looking forward to it and hearing different folks views on reading it. When does the discussion thread for this book open? I look forward to participating.

Wishing all a wonderful end to 2017 and a Happy 2018!

Jean | 50 comments Hello everyone! My name is Jean and I live in North Carolina, USA. I love to read. While I will read many different genres, I'm particularly interested in non-fiction or historical fiction. If I find a good historical fiction book, I follow it up with historical versions so I can learn what really happened. I tend to read more military history, specifically WWII era and aviation. I am relatively new to Goodreads and just starting to find my way around. Thanks for allowing me to join your group!

Diane in Australia Greetings!

I read mostly nonfiction, and finding groups that do the same has been difficult, so, I was glad to find this one.

I live in Queensland, Australia. I'm 61 and a semi-invalid. I'm pretty much housebound. I am married to a great bloke, and we have 4 tabby cats. Also, a daughter and son-in-law, and grand-dog.

I particularly enjoy biographies/autobiographies/memoirs. I find micro-histories intriguing, too.

Cheers,
Diane

good evening,
I am P Van Ooteghem, historian and criminologist from Gent, Belgium.
For the moment i am reading the Hitler Biography by I Kershaw (some 1750 Pages) almost through the first part. I do like the books by Goldsworthy (especially his biography of cesar) an Dalrymple (last Mughal and White Mughals)
From time to time ilike to rest a bit with some good fantazy (like Tolkien) or SiFI (like D Simmons or RC Clarcke)
I also enjoyed the books by Zafon

Jodi Jakeway Hello! My name is Jodi and I live in Michigan, USA. With the current political climate in my country I have come to realize how very little I really know about American history. Looking up lists of must-reads for history is daunting to say the least. I'm hoping to find some excellent recommendations and gain some insight through this group. I love documentaries, biographies, non-fiction, and historical fiction. I am looking forward to some good reads!

I live in Charleston now and as a child, I was the one who sat on the hassock at my grandfather's feet, listening to his tales about "the War." I was fascinated! I write now, and have two children who I strive daily to foster a love of both books and the history that made them.
