Nancy Jorgensen | 1 comments Hello. My name is Nancy. I’m from CA. I wasn’t at all interested in history growing up. As I’ve gotten older, I find myself soaking up as much of it as I can. I’ve got a strange fascination with all things WWII. I read about it, watch documentaries about it and generally enjoy all of it. I’m hoping to learn more about many historical things as a part of this group. I’m very happy to be here.

russell | 1 comments Hi everyone, my name is Russell. I am a senior History major in college and recently I’ve gained interest in sickness and medical care (or lack thereof) during the American Civil War. I also enjoy reading about Russian History, Cleopatra VIII’s reign, WWII, and the Salem Witch Trials. It’s great to meet you all!

message 3054: by Matt (new)

Matt Hi everyone,

My name is Matt. I’m from North Carolina. I’m currently finishing a BA in History, and part of the reason that I use Goodreads and joined this group was to keep track of some of the books I am reading for my history degree. I also enjoy reading popular history books, biographies, and science fiction for fun. Glad to be here.

Cedric Crumbley (cedriccrumbley) | 1 comments Hello, my name is Cedric Crumbley. I'm an avid reader, writer, and author. History and business books are my passion. The history books recommended by this group are some of the best. I remember the book, Fear: Trump in the White House, was recommended by this group. It was a real eye opener.
Thanks for the recommendation and look forward to the upcoming books to read.
Have a great day!

message 3056: by Emma (new)

Emma Hi Everyone, 🙂
I’m Emma, mother of 2 and wife. I’m from England.
I studied history (ww2) and enjoyed it.
I also enjoy reading about British history (specifically the Stuart Period)
I am open to any history (fiction, non fiction) as I feel I don’t currently read as much history as I used too.

Linda (firesnuff2) | 2 comments Hi, lm Linda I live in California, USA. I am a wild land firefighter and love history. I prefer historical fiction and am currently reading from a list of one book from every country in the world. I’m up to Australia as of now. I find that reading relatively unknown authors who are recommended on the world list I avoid commercial clichés. I look forward to getting recommendations and discussing books with all of you.

Diana (gwenivere27) | 9 comments Hello everyone,

I've been a member of this group for a while now and cannot remember if I ever introduced myself. My name is Diana Thomas, I'm in my mid 40's and I am disabled so I can usually find plenty of time to read. I went back to college in 2015 and received an Associates degree in history. I'm currently working on my Bachelors. My favorite history to read about is Early American and British history especially the Tudor and Victorian eras, though I've recently started reading more about the Stuarts. Because of college classes, most of my reading time is taken up by schoolwork. I'm currently taking an Indiana history class which is interesting, but my favorite class this semester is a German film history course which is a unique way to look at the social history of Germany.

message 3063: by David (new)

David (batedavegmailcom) | 3 comments Hello. I have been a member of this group for some time but it seems I never posted an introduction, so here goes. I am a retired public servant (Environmental Protection Administration) living in Michigan and in Florida in the winter. I got my love of history from my grandfather who taught high school history. Having grown up with him, history was never far away. He taught U. S. History but my favorite period is post-Roman Britain.
I hope to learn from many of you and maybe make a friend or two along the way.

message 3064: by Ryan (new)

Ryan Margiotta | 3 comments Hey, my name is Ryan. I joined this club a little bit ago. I’m in school to be a history teacher and I’m currently reading through biographies of all the POTUS. And books about major events during the time period. I’m currently reading Ralph Ketcham’s James Madison biography. I believe I saw this group was reading it as well. But I’m not exactly sure how to follow along. I need to familiarize myself with this group and any tips for doing that would be great!

Glad you joined us, Hillary. This is the place for the avid history buff.

I suggest you check out our homepage and see what we have to offer. You can access it through this link:

History Book Club main page

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box). It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how books that you mention should look:

The Last Generation of the Roman Republic by Erich S. Gruen by Erich S. Gruen (no photo)

Currently, I'm studying history in English and I'd love to read more about that topic to prepare for my final exam. My name is Michelle. Reading is a passion of mine and in the last couple of years I have found great joy in studying history. I am slowly working my way through Susan Wise Bauer’s Well Educated Mind list and the more I read through it the more history I want to read! I am a busy Mom of three at the moment so I do not have as much time to read as I would like but I do like to try and keep up with this club (haven’t so far!) 😀

Bill's Chaos (wburris) Hi, I am Bill from Canada. I have been an avid reader since the early 60s. Since the early 70s, I have mainly been reading science fiction and science related non-fiction. Recently I have started reading more philosophy and classics. I would like to read some history to provide context for the philosophy and classics.

Currently I am reading:
A History of the Ancient Near East, ca. 3000-323 BC by Marc Van De Mieroop by Marc Van De Mieroop Marc Van De Mieroop
before reading:
The Epic of Gilgamesh by Anonymous

When reading books from Ancient Greece, I will borrow my son's textbooks for the corresponding history.

I haven't found history books to read along with ancient Indian and Chinese philosophy. The earliest Indian writing on my list is from 1500 BCE, and the earliest Chinese writing is from 500 BCE.

Emily (emily659) Hi All!

I’m Emily, residing in Indiana, USA. I’m excited to participate in this book club! I’m an avid non-fiction reader and have enjoyed history since I was young. Lately, I have been gravitating toward books on the suffragist and civil rights movements in the US, and American political history in general. I have also developed an interest in Russian history, from the end of the Romanovs to the present. If I had to spend the remainder of my life studying a specific topic, I would analyze the psychology and sociology behind political movements across the ages.

This is how the books that you mentioned should look:

Thunder in the Mountains Chief Joseph, Oliver Otis Howard, and the Nez Perce War by Daniel J. Sharfstein by Daniel J. Sharfstein Daniel J. Sharfstein
The Evangelicals The Struggle to Shape America by Frances FitzGerald by Frances FitzGerald Frances FitzGerald
Ninth Street Women Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Grace Hartigan, Joan Mitchell, and Helen Frankenthaler Five Painters and the Movement That Changed Modern Art by Mary Gabriel by Mary Gabriel Mary Gabriel
