Welcome to the group, Carly (love your nom de group) - we are glad you found us. We have discussions on all aspects of history so please feel free to join in.

I suggest you check out our homepage and see what we have to offer. You can access it through this link:

History Book Club main page

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box). It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how books that you mention should look:

Disculpad si me presento en español, pero es porque no entiendo el inglés.

Me gusta la historia y he creado un grupo de novela histórica para analizarla e investigar los datos históricos. Leemos y buscamos los errores, que luego escribimos en los grupos de discusión.

Estáis todos invitados. Saludos.

Hello there! My name is Endeavour. Well....I really do love history especially when I go about collecting WW2 reenactment stuff and reading tons of historical novels. For me personally, I have read books like Tanamera, Regeneration (The one about Seigfried Sasson) and War and peace (Hands down this is the best historical novel in my opinion)!

Corey | 7 comments Hello everybody my name is Corey. And I live in the New England area. All my life I've been a big reader, I'll read just about anything, except romance, HAHA! I love movies, I'm a big History buff, History was my favorite subject in school!

I'm big on US History, especially on US Presidents, I have many books, and magazines. I own some books from a few well known Presidential Historians, such as Doris Kearns Goodwin, Jon Meacham, David McCullough, and Ron Chernow.

My favorite Presidents to study are Lincoln, Kennedy, Roosevelt, Grant, Adams, Jefferson, Bush, and many more!

I'm also into Military History about the Civil War, World War II, Vietnam, and the Holocaust. I watched Schindler's List a few years back for the first time and I was just blown away, such a powerful film!

Some of my other favorite genres are Political thriller, suspense, science fiction, and so on.

But I look forward to getting to know everyone here, and I'm always open to recommendations on good books.

message 3319: by Nikita (new)

Nikita (abigaildarcy) | 1 comments Hello everyone, I am very excited to have joined this group. My name is Nikita and I am avid lover of history. I have been since I was really little (I cannot remember not loving history, so that young). My love for history is all thanks to my dad who would put on the History channel I would watch Civil War Journal and other shows. He also had me watch at a very young age the musical movie "1776". (which in turn he, his mother, and few other family members got me to fall in love with classic movies as well) As I became older I saw my focus and love was towards American History, mainly American Revolution and the American Revolutionary War. I am also a huge fan of John Adams and his family.

When it comes to reading (also thanks to my dad and few others in my family I came to love reading at a young age) I read so many different genres than just History, Biographies, and Autobiographies. I am hoping with joining this group I can find new books to read.

My other reason of joining this group is hoping to find books about particular topics that will help me learn more about what my family lived through.

I have for many years researching my family history and in the recent months I have received so much new information about people in my family. One such person is my maternal 2nd Great Uncle who died in World War I. I never knew when he died, where he died, or how. Thanks to recent inquiries I found the campaign he was a part of that he lost his life.

I do not want to just randomly pick up a book. I want to find books that are reliable and with good reviews. And honestly, what better place than a group like this who has many members who love history as much as I.

As you can tell I am horrible about introducing myself, so I shall leave this post with some little tid-bits of myself.

1. Born on New Year's Day
2. Married for 6 1/2 years to a wonderful man who serves in the United States Navy (He is also an avid lover of Military History)
3. Volunteer for organization that helps preservers and teaches about a Fort that saw battle in the American Revolutionary War.

Everyone enjoy the rest of your day and cannot wait to contribute to the group.

~Nikita~

Dan Walter (danwalter) | 1 comments Hello. My wife loves history and historical fiction and she enjoys writing reviews on Goodreads. She's pretty good at it, but gets discouraged sometimes because she doesn't get much feedback. I'm wondering how to get her reviews to reach more people. For example, she just posted about Ian Toll's "Pacific Crucible"

Any suggestions as to how to get people to look at her reviews and give her some encouragement?

Thanks very much.

Bradley Vaught | 1 comments Hello all. I am new to goodreads thanks to a friend. I am a student of history with focus on US History - Antebellum thru Civil Rights with a particular interest in local history pertaining to the South Carolina Lowcountry (if anyone knows of any similar groups more catered towards that focus please feel free to message me). I do occasionally enjoy historical fiction when time permits. My favorite fictional work is probably Once An Eagle by Anton Myrer. As for history with which I am best suited to discuss, the work I find myself recommending the most to people is Battle Cry of Freedom by James M. McPherson. At 34, I consider myself extremely lucky to have had so long an interest in history as I feel it allows me to put today's social and political issues into some form of perspective, and with the sheer amount of information offered today via technology, and internet in particular, I find a historical background with a proper understanding of historiography invaluable when it comes to properly digesting that information. With that being said I hope this was a proper introduction. I look forward to finding many great books thanks to this awesome group. I'm usually not a huge contributor when it comes to reviews and comments, but please feel free to message me anytime. Thanks!

Hi my name is Lucienne, I'm Brazilian but living in France; I have a great passion for History, unfortunately I could not follow this path as a carreer, my main interest is British History, WWI and WWII, and Espionage. I love living in France because I literally walk through the history (the village where I live is near to Compiegne, and Hundred Year's War) and I am very happy to participate from this group.

I could not follow History in my job carreer due to a historic episode in Brazil, the time I went to University, the country was under dictatorship, so most of History Universities were closed, including the one I wanted to go, and they were reopened the year I left the University, I could not make a step back due any other reasons but I plan to go back to University when my kids will be grown up.

William Whalen | 284 comments Hello Lucienne,

Welcome to the club. I also love all history with a strong focus on British. I am enjoying the subgroup "the Tudors History Lovers club (Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, ect…). I just finished reading Henry IV Henry IV by Christopher Given-Wilson by Christopher Given-Wilson (No photo) which was very well done and covers both the 100 Years War and the start of the Wars of the Roses. I would also recommend Edward III Edward III by W. Mark Ormrod by W. Mark Ormrod W. Mark Ormrod which looks at the origins of the 100 Year War.

Wood Hughes | 1 comments Raised in Birmingham, AL during the dark period of the ‘50’s and ‘60’s, I’m interested in Southern History including but not limited to the Civil War. I’ve also developed a taste for the history of the Thirty Years War period.

I’ve actually written and had published several stories based on the alternate history novel “1632”. Currently, I’m reading Tony Horwitz new book “Spying on the South’.

Stefanie Robinson (imyourmausoleum) Hello, new friends! My name is Stefanie. I live in Dayton, Tennessee. (I normally do not admit that and just say I am from Chattanooga, which is about 30 min South of me. People get belligerent about this being the Scopes Trial town and I get tired of it. -_-)

I am a History Major, (World History, Concentration in European History, Specialization in World War II), with a minor in Cultural Anthropology.

I love reading about royals and nobility, world religions, and WWII. I read a wide range of things, however. I'm doing my family history on Ancestry and discovered some pretty cool people on my Dads side, so I just started Queen Isabella by Alison Weir...turns out Queen Isabella is my 23rd GGM on of branch.

Robert Wang (rtwang) | 2 comments Hello there,

My name is Robert Wang. I was raised in Hong Kong before eventually moving to the US to pursue business, including real estate and the aerospace industry. I have always been interested in the Opium Wars period of history because of my experiences growing up, and how pertinent that story is in the current world climate. I also enjoy reading historical biographies, such as John Adams, so I thought this would be a great group to join!

Cheers,
Robert

Sara Adams | 1 comments Hello. My name is Sara. Born and raised in Toronto but currently living in Australia. Have always been interested in History but never found enough time to read until recently. And with GoodReads it's great to be 'challenged' to do more! Problem is now I'm trying to balance my time between READING history and LISTENING to history podcasts which just talk about more books to add to my READING list.

Isabella | 1 comments Hi everyone, my name is Isabella Nieminen!

As I prepare to become a lawyer and look back at my life, I realize how important history and international relations have been to me. I’m a leader for my school’s Model UN team and I write political articles for the local newspaper. I absolutely love history!

My goal in life is to become fluent in at least two other languages!

My favorite place is Finland, and the most recent place that I visited was Lourdes, France— a Catholic pilgrimage site in the Pyrenees.

The most recent books that I have read are “1984” by George Orwell, “The Name of God is Mercy” by Pope Francis, and “Saint Bernadette: Her Story” by Françoise Bouchard.
