V.W. Singer | 141 comments I use voice to text. I use the free program Balabolka. However, it is the "voice" that matters and makes the reading sound human. The free voices are pretty robotic.

I use Neospeech's "Bridgit" voice which I like very much. However they have stopped selling the voice individually and now you have to buy an application that incorporates the voice or offers it as an upgrade. There are other voices on the market with varying prices and quality.

Marie Cheryl | 20 comments I tried out "Natural Reader" as a text to voice converter. I found that the files it generated were on the order of 30 MB for five pages of text. Unless one is generating direct to DVD, that strikes me as too large to be helpful. From what I've seen in the past, the voice to text conversions tend to be very sloppy on grammar and nuance.

Just my thoughts, for whatever they may be worth.

Teri Dluznieski (horsewisevt) | 43 comments I believe the initial post was voice to text, not text to voice.

I have heard a lot of good things re dragon speak.. and or dragon speak naturally... for creating voice to text. I did a bit of searching, a while ago... dragon speak is pricey. there may be other open source programs out there now...

I am always torn between, knowing I am more inspired with pen and paper, against the potential "ease" of being able to skip the middle-man of the actual writing;)

You're right. My mistake. I've used Dragon Naturally Speaking before, but for a long document, the punctuation and line breaks etc became very tiresome, plus the error rate was still too high to be useful for something like a book.
