I've read the first couple of chapters. (view spoiler)[ I was a bit unsure of the prologue but have enjoyed the shift to Victorian London and the heroine's job as a clerk for the Metropolitan Police. (hide spoiler)]

Half way through now. Although the language strays a little bit towards purple prose I'm really enjoying the storyline.

I read the preview to this one and enjoyed it. I'm checking to see if the book is in my public library.

No, but it is on the steamy side and some may find some of the words used crude.

Finished it. Gave it a 3.5 -4 star rating.

Overall I liked it, and it did have a bit of older style historical feeling with the language and plot. But the intimate scenes were written for the times now and although some might find them a bit crude they did fit into the plot I thought. Quite enjoyed it and the next book will be interesting, it features a hero who is a cold blooded assassin!

I'm really looking forward to it! Someone on my GR flist who reads several hundred romances each year and gets a lot from net galley gave it 5 stars where she gives nearly everything only 3. I'm anxious to read an HR that she has given a very rare 5 star rating.

That's interesting. I noticed that quite a lot of people had given it a five star rating. Not on that level for me, maybe I'm getting fussier in my old age, LOL. The story was good and the characters believable but some of the descriptive language drifted towards purple prose. I'm just not a big fan of that any more.

I just borrowed The Highwayman
from Overdrive. The audiobook is $3.99, so if I really like the story, I'll probably get the audio. Does this book end on a cliffhanger?

I was so pleased to be able to borrow it from them. Sometimes I can get the audio, but lots of audios are only available through Audible, so no way to borrow them. Still, this is great. I go through so many books. I'd need a second job to buy them all. I only have until the 21st; I guess I can renew. But I finish a great book (to me, that is) in a couple of days or less.

I know, I know. Now on p26 and still of same mind. I just have a feeling that it's going to be a Keeper...

I haven't had much time to read this week but was able to pick it back up last night... plugging along until p. 52, when I was stopped in my tracks.

Bonkers. The h said she would "go absolutely bonkers." In 1872... bonkers... a term not coined until the late 1940s. Now, I understand that publishers these days play fast and loose with the history in this genre, but come on, srsly?! Bonkers?!? I'm not usually one to nitpick such details, but it was SO obviously out of place -- especially when the author's bio claims she has a "borderline-obsessive passion for history." LOL

Ok, getting ready to dive into this!

Not really feeling the current BOTM so I'll put than on hold and go back to it eventually before the 15th.

It's 1:30 a where I am. I've slept for a couple of hours. I completed To Tame the Wind earlier. I'm going to begin this book, The Highwaymanin a half or so after I start something cooking in my crock pot (Louisiana-style red beans and rice :)).
