Never Go Back question

I think Cruise is the last actor that should ever play Reacher. In the first movie, the plot had to move from a short "bad guy" because...well, because Tom Cruise was playing Reacher. I see Reacher as taller, stronger, and not the "pretty boy" type. It would make the movies better if they would cast someone more suited for the part.

As a die-hard 'Reacher reader', I cannot accept Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. Reacher is imperfect, big -- almost lunking big and as simple and straight-forward a righteous character as you could ever want. Cruise is too pretty and comes off as sophisticated. Jack Reacher is intelligent but he is not sophisticated. I have said this before but I will repeat myself -- Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) would make the ideal Jack Reacher.

The movie got the character wrong, but if you watch it as something separate - it's cool, and Cruise is the man. Can't wait

Tom Cruise isn't the ideal, but he isn't the worst either. He can definitely do dry and sarcastic and can be a real bad ass. But too me, he is Ethan Hunt (Mission Impossible) and thus NOT Jack Reacher. I have seen every Mission Impossible movie and read most of the Jack Reacher series and the two characters and not interchangable. Oh well, I will give him a chance to change my mind.

I thought he couldn't be Lestat and I was wrong about that role.

Better casting for Jack Reacher would be Josh Holloway from tv series Lost.

In the books so much of Jack Reacher has to do with his size and the way he uses it. Tom Cruise is not that Reacher.

Still... I watched the first movie before I read all the books. If you can just keep the things separate then the movie was good. I liked it better than any of his Mission Impossible movies.
