I have it - but I started 5 other books today (I may have a problem)! One of them is for my book club and fairly short so I think I will be ready to start this one either this weekend or early next week.

I am indeed - very astute sleuthing, Justin! :)

Definitely unusual, but I am 25 pages in and I think I understand what is going on . . . which is not what I expected when I was looking at some of the reviews. I thought it would be WAY out there.

I mean, those commas and more commas, with more commas, and then some.

So, they went to see a play - and we got a 10 page synopsis just so that we could eventually get to the point that they mention grinding up bones? The play was interesting, but it seems like that was the only point . . . maybe there will be more of an obvious reason . . . but, it a weird satire, do you need a reason?
Okay . . . so there is some more from the play that is important. Lost of horns. Lots of commas! ;)

I got the feeling when I read about this on Wikipedia that the publishing of this book was rather random - like he was inbetween books and this was unexpected and out of nowhere. I did enjoy parts, but it was so spastic. Not sure how it got in the top 100 must reads. And the end, yeah - cliffhanger for the sake of cliffhanger - and do we care? Meh . . .

It's definitely out there. If you are expecting something normal and coherent, you will be disappointed! ;)
I haven't seen discussion on this one in a few days - I know that a few of you out there have been reading and I am curious to know your thoughts on this weird tale! (This means you, TheLongWait! ;))

We can just delete all those - however, a weird occurrence like this is fitting for this particular book.

I guess it's the depth of the narrative that he works. I mean it's incredible to be reading such a short book with its verbosity and yet I feel like a bunch of ground has been covered

Might I ask what you did like about the book and what you took away from it? My experience was like a minion trying to learn politics. I was so lost. I wanted to like it because Pynchon is someone I've always wanted to read.
This was my first Pynchon experience and it left me feeling like I was too dumb to get something. When books do that I typically get frustrated and i did with this one....a lot.

I will have to defer to TheLongWait, but I don't think I have seen him on in a while.

Nope - no worries - whether you are quiet or chatty is up to you. I just enjoy our conversations when we have them. You definitely helped me appreciate Infinite Jest and The Crying of Lot 49 more than I would have on my own.

Maybe I'm just searching more for a what was it that people took away from it? At least those who enjoyed it. Thanks for responding by the way.
