I had no idea why they were calling him Polendina...
Mister Geppetto (/dʒɨˈpɛtoʊ/;[1] Italian: [dʒepˈpetto]),[2] also Mastro Geppetto, is a fictional character in the novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. Geppetto is an elderly, impoverished woodcarver and the creator (and thus father) of Pinocchio. He wears a yellow wig that looks like cornmeal mush (or polendina), and subsequently the children of the neighborhood (as well as some of the adults) call him "Polendina", which greatly annoys him. "Geppetto" is a diminutive form of Giuseppe (Joseph).

Whoa! This was definitely written for a pre-Disney audience. Kinda makes electronic games look tame. Okay, that's an overstatement, but if my parents read this to me I would never have gone to sleep again. Ever.
Just finished. So many awful things happened to the erstwhile little marionette that it got to be kinda funny. Especially when so many events were obviously attempts to moralize... Be a good boy. Don't waste food. Go to school and study hard. Listen to your parents. Stay away from strangers. Don't be stupid with your money. Etc. Then more mayhem and wild, unexpected characters.
