Ghost in the Stacks You are Currently with Clotho,

The old woman takes you on a visit to see Atropos....But it is just not any visit. Atropos was sent to give you a new task. She pulls out three scrolls and ask you to "Review" them, you can take only one scroll, which one do you choose:

A. Pick Random
B. Pick Recent
C. Pick Top

(Click on the Explore Tab on Goodreads, toward the bottom right hand side, you will see Highlighted with these tabs.
Now pick a book on that page to Read, tell us the book you choose, and what you rated it.)

(Please click on the link of your choice, and let it guide you where to go. Do not post your task below, unless your link brought you back here.)

Ghost in the Stacks Post your book and rating, as well as which group you just came from.
Once this is completed you may move onto Quest Three.

Barbara ★ I've had a hard time trying to find a book that I could read for Quest Two. I decided to check every day at "recent" until something pops up that I actually want to read. Something finally did, I'll be reading The King by J.R. Ward just as soon as it is delivered.

Sunshine✰✰✰ I came from ACATT.
I went to the "Pick Recent" shelf.
I read The Stalker by Bill Pronzini 4/12/14 ★ ★ ★

I didn't see the point in having the POV's of the wives/girlfriends. In fact, once their men were killed, they were cut out of the story anyway. It got better towards the end, but it was a struggle to get there.

JenniferJ I'm going to be reading for "Pick Recent" Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) by E.L. James

Barbara ★ I just finished The King and totally loved it. J.R. Ward can do no wrong! ★★★★★

Review:
Well I've always loved this series. I like the new trend which gives multiple story lines instead of just the hero and heroine. I can't imagine 500-600 pages with the only focus on the h/h. I love how J.R. Ward incorporates all the periphery couples and gives just enough information to capture your attention and draw you into their romance as well as the main h/h. Whether you like the characters or not, the tidbits draw you in and I find it amazing that Ms. Ward can even make you root for the bad guys. Assail and Sola, Xcor and Layla, Trez and Selena. I really like Assail and Sola. Heck even Xcor is growing on me. I can't wait for everyone's HEA. Oh don't get me wrong, they have to suffer first but a HEA is required for each and every one.

This book had so many secrets revealed and just plain old revelations. WOW. I took my time reading this so I could absorb it all and just revel in the madness. I hope The Warden keeps them coming.

Beth Roberts | 15 comments I am having trouble picking a book for Quest #2 also.
On "Top" I got nothing I'd ever even heard of.
On "Recent" I got weird posts that didn't have much to do with books per se, except one about gay sex.
And on "Random", I got this:
The Challenges in Administrative Political and Developmental Renewal in Africa: Emerging Issues
by John W. Forje

I was hoping to come across something already in my to-be-read pile. I'm certainly not paying money for the Africa book, sorry!! That sounds like a snoozer for sure, lol!!

At least Anita got "Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn! Too bad I've already read it. . .

Ghost in the Stacks You can always try again, it might be different this time around.

message 14: by Beth (new)

Beth Roberts | 15 comments Ok, I've compromised and bent the rules to my will. I finished my first Quest book and I need a new book before I go to work! This whole Quest Two thing was NOT working for me. My goal with the Quests are to whittle down my TBR Pile also, so I really wanted to pick a book I already own. I tried all three options (Random, Recent and Top) repeatedly. Finally, on "Recent", I noticed a link to the right that is labelled "Recent Reviews of my books", so I clicked that and came up with a review for a book in my Pile that I have not yet read. So I am going with:
First Ink (Wicked Ink Chronicles, #1) by Laura Wright
This is a short book, which after Kate Morton's "The Forgotten Garden" will be okay.

message 15: by Beth (new)

Beth Roberts | 15 comments P.S., not that it matters, but I am coming from Atropos at Wacky Reading Challenges for Quest One. Not sure I am grasping this concept. . .

message 16: by Beth (new)

Beth Roberts | 15 comments Well, this was a VERY short challenge for me. "First Ink" turned out to be a novella, which after reading the 645 page book for Quest One, was okay, I guess. I guess I should've picked Stephen King's "11/22/63" instead but I admit, I wasn't ready for another epic quest. However, this book was NOT epic in any way. I rated it 2-stars and wrote a review for it. The one thing it did accomplish was getting it out of my TBR pile, so that's good.

I have decided to do Lachesis' Pit Stop next and already have all the books picked out.

Ghost in the Stacks Awesome Beth!

message 18: by Greta (new)

Greta I made it here for Quest 2. I am going to read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak by Markus Zusak, which was on the Pick Recent reviews page.

Ghost in the Stacks One of my favorites!!!!
I pass this book to everyone I know!

Just finished my book, Tangled (Tangled, #1) by Emma Chase

Here's my review:

2.5 stars on this one.

There were parts of it that I enjoyed, the romance was pretty good and there were some funny lines. But the men just pissed me off so much! They were all such assholes, including the main character. I mean, ya, Drew improved a bit at the end, but I have some serious trouble believing it is permanent. Also they are all complete pigs. "Guys think about sex every 5 seconds..." are you kidding me? How cliche can you get??? That's not even possible, they would never accomplish anything!

I could also really do without the super detailed sex scenes. I just don't think erotica is my thing. There just isn't enough depth in it for me. Recommended for people that really enjoy romance and/or erotica.

message 21: by Greta (new)

Greta I finished The Book Thief and it was a 5 Star book for me! It was just such an amazing story. I loved how it was narrated by death, so you can imagine how death would have felt during that time. The idea of how important words were during that time is also fascinating. Liesel both loved and hated words as they were her passion, but also Hitler's weapons in his cause. The characters were wonderful as well...Rudy, Liesel, Max, Hans, Rosa...so great. On to Quest 3!

Ghost in the Stacks Great book!

QUEST TWO: CLOTHO

I came from Wacky Reading Challenges

For Quest Two I chose Recent.

I read: Gone Girl|Gillian Flynn|10.12.14
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Rating: ★★★

Brief Review:
I know I will be in the minority on this, but this book was just not as good as I had anticipated. With all the hype, the move, etc, I expected much more. Shame on me.

On their 5th wedding anniversary, Nick's wife Amy suddenly disappears. Signs of foul play and other factors immediately determine Nick as the primary suspect. However, very few people really know Amy Dunne - including her husband of five years. What follows is a winding, twisting, turning story that would give anyone nightmares.

What I liked: I really liked the plot. The basics of the story are really great and very imaginative.

What I didn't like: I enjoy the twisting turns of a story as much as the next person, but there comes a time when too much just ruins the story. For me, that is what happened here. By the time I was 75 % into it, I was just ready for it to be over so that I could move on to something else more interesting.

Over all it was a 3 star read for me.

Ghost in the Stacks That waS a tuff one for me to rate as well Jingles. The Book overall was good, but I hated the characters.

But I think the author intended that....So does that make her a great writter? I hated them both so much, I felt it in my bones!

Abbie, I think she is a really good writer. I think she has a wonderful imagination and you can tell that in her writing.

I was the same way though, I hated both characters, and as you say, I'm sure that was her intention. I can't remember ever reading a book and coming away from it not liking at least one character, so this was a very new concept for me...something I need to explore more and get a little more used to.

The thing that just killed this book for me was all the craziness just became too much. While I loved the plot and the concept of the book, after a while, Amy's crazy b*tch ways just didn't phase me anymore. There was just too much of it, and at about 75% through, I just wanted it to end. It was hard to make myself finish that last part of the book, and left me wanting to throw it across the room.

In all fairness though, had I read this somewhere later on down the line, maybe it would have been different. I know better than to read a book that everyone is raving about. It's goes much better for me and my experience with a book if I let all the hype die down before trying to read it. Otherwise, I always expect too much.

The thing I like about this particular author is her fearlessness in writing about a violent female character. I think I even read about that somewhere (her website maybe?) - where she wanted to write just such a book - one that focuses on female violence.

A violent female can be quite different from a violent male. Make a man mad, he will just pull out a gun and shoot you. Make a woman mad, and she will make your life a living hell. Lol. We can be very mean, manipulative and destructive. Adam did not stand a chance with Eve. He was going to eat that apple one way or the other :)

I will read Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu Legend by Marie Lu

Review:

This was a typical dystopian book. We have two MCs, June who is part of the goverment and Day, a rebel. June finds out how corrupt the goverment is and ends up helping Day. Even though it is very predictable I will most likely continue this series at some point.

now on to quest three

My Pick Lover Eternal by J.R. Ward
Lover Eternal (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #2) by J.R. Ward

Review:
Love, love, love this book. Rhage is such a softie under all that badass BDB power. I love how soft he and his beast become around Mary. There are some really wonderful moments in this story. The snark in this series is just fantastic. I love all the intricacies of the brothers. Really entertaining read.

Tara Quest 2 - I came from AMMP

I'll do recent and read Never Never (Never Never, #1) by Colleen Hoover based on Liezels' review.

01/16
liezels rated a book 3 of 5 stars
Never Never (Never Never, #1)
by Colleen Hoover (Goodreads Author)
read in January, 2015

Finally read this book...I really enjoyed it, but truly wish I knew it had a huge cliffhanger? I would have waited until the next book comes out in May to read this one too! It's got the typical CoHo writing that is so easy to read, and the really likeable characters you expect, but that blasted cliffhanger! Ughh!

★★★★ Read: 3/9/2015

Sophie (drsophie) I've come from Atropos. Plan to listen to Ready Player One by Ernest Cline once I've finished my current audiobook.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) I'm coming from AMMP. I picked "Recent" and chose the "Recent Reviews of My Books" option because all of the recent reviews that I've checked in the past few days have been hate-reads of Fifty Shades of Grey (NO THANKS) and other assorted hate-reviews for things I have no interest in reading. Fed up with waiting for something good to show so like Beth, I manipulated the choice a bit.

Key of Knowledge (Key Trilogy, #2) by Nora Roberts is my choice. I hope to read it soon!

message 37: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) Finished Ready Player One by Ernest Cline . I really enjoyed this. Was surprised as the start was a bit slow (there was an awful lot of information thrown at the reader that didn't seem relevant) but really got into the quest and wanted to see how the main characters persevered and won. Couldn't stop listening to the last few hours of the book.

Sweet Temptation by Lucy Diamond by Lucy Diamond
Finished: 02/22/15

I finished this book yesterday, and there are a lot of thoughts going through my mind still. To be honest, at first I thought this book would be a light and fluffy read given the pinkish cover. I was wrong about that. It follows 3 women who are starting on "weight busters" a weight loss program. At the same time all three women has their struggles at home and at their work places. I loved following the struggles and how they slowly got out of those as the book progressed. I also enjoyed reading about how the three of them slowly build er friendly bond with each other.

I fully enjoyed the read and have given it 4 ★★★★. This was my first read of Lucy Diamond, but it will definitely not be the last.

Now - Finally I'm off to Quest 3 :)
