Thanks for sharing this Thom. I knew about some of her homes, but not that there were many, but certainly didn't know about her collecting habit. I'm not sure if her autobio mentions it either.

I meant to add a link to Come, Tell Me...but forgot.

She loved collecting, and houses were among her passions. She had quite a few and would lend or rent them to her friends. She also signed one over to Max (the one in Winterbrook, I think).

https://www.mansionglobal.com/article...

And I also can't recall her mentioning the collecting in her auto-bio. But she does mention her passion for houses and decorating.

This article focuses on 8 of the homes she owned, but it also mentions the apartments as well:

Lady Clementina ffinch-ffarowmore | 1237 comments Some of her homes are discussed I remember. And she mentions surfing as well; there is a picture of her and archie with surfboards I remember.

Postern of Fate mentions lots of children's books based on her own old ones I think.

I shared some links a few posts above of them surfing. POF is very much a self-indulged ramble about her childhood, and she does catalog a lot of books from it as well as other things.

At the moment I can't recall if it was based on her family home or Abney Hall, the home where she spent so many wonderful Christmases.

Tasha | 2 comments Hi all!
I'm Tasha and I live in Melbourne, Australia.
Really glad to have come across this group as I love reading mysteries.
I started reading Agatha Chrisite I was a teenager, And Then There Were None would have to be my favourite. I really enjoy the Brother Cadfael mysteries (I'm up to the last in the series and am pre-emptively sad that there won't be any more to read for the first time).
Just this year I discovered the Lord Peter Wimsey series and absolutely love them. Dorothy Sayers writing is like P.G. Wodehouse and Agatha Christie combined.
I've also really enjoyed the Commissario Brunetti books I've read, Donna Leon paints such a lovely picture of Venice, and I would like to read more P.D. James.
Looking forward to some great discussions!

Welcome, Tasha, glad you found us. That's a great list of favourites - you've reminded me that I read several of the Brunetti books a bit too close together and fizzled out on the series. Must get back to it!

Welcome Tasha. I've been meaning to start Leon's Brunetti series for years but others keep pushing to the front of the line.

And, Judy, that is a fine line when I discover a new series I love: rush in and overdose or try to space them out without forgetting them entirely.

Hi Tasha. P D James was our challenge author a short while ago, so we have discussion threads for all of her Dalgliesh books.

Oh my, this is me all over…hi, Tasha, welcome! Be prepared to add to your TBR list, I’ve learned about several new favorite authors through this group! You’re off to a great start with your existing favorites, I want to read more Brunetti as well.

Jeff Goostrey | 19 comments Hello,
I came across this group looking up a Poirot review. I’ve read some Christie, Nemesis is a personal favourite. I’ve read a few other golden age authors and have a few on the shelf, Sayers, Hare amongst others. I’ve enjoyed some of the Martin Edwards short story collection and the PD James short story recent collections.

Looking forward to joining the 2022 reading challenge.

On a personal note, my Gran, a keen gardener was Christie’s gardener, living and working at Greenway for a number of years. We had a very enjoyable day, many years ago now, taking Gran and my mum back there when it was first opened to the public. They were able to give us a full, personal guided tour.

Welcome, Jeff, glad you have joined and it's good to hear you plan to join in the 2022 challenge.

That's a lovely personal connection with Agatha Christie - thank you for sharing it with us. I went to Greenway this summer and the gardens are beautiful.

message 1270: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Barbara from the US here.
I read a couple books a week, and lately have fallen back on my Golden Age. I am finding myself more interested in some lesser known writers - Christie is hit or miss with me, and for the life of me, I can't understand the appeal of The Hollow Man, or, for that matter, Carr, but tastes will vary.
Lately, reading Margaret Millar who is also hit or miss, Elizabeth Sanxay Holding, Cyril Hare, Anthony Wynne. Also liked a couple of Anna Katherine Greenes books, but they're sort of pre-Golden age and some would find them "old timey"

message 1275: by Kerri (new)

Kerri Greetings Everyone! My name is Kerri and I live in northern California. I picked up my first mystery (Nancy Drew, of course) when I was 8 and have been hooked for life. Favorite authors from the past few years are Laurie R. King, Alan Bradley, P.D. James, and Rex Stout to name a few. I have always believed I was an Agatha Christie fan but recently realized I had never actually read any of her books! So, this year I began my journey with authors of the Golden Age and am delighted to connect with others who share this interest.

GailW (abbygg) Hello, I'm Gail. I'm in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a HUGE mystery fan, having starting with Nancy Drew and then right into Agatha Christie before the age of 10. (I'm not sure my parents knew at the time, they were just fascinated that I loved to read so much.) Christie, Sayers, PD James, Tey are my favorites but I want to learn of others. Glad to have found the group!

Lynnie | 20 comments Just want to say first that this is a brilliant group name!

Hi, I'm Lynn from the UK. I first read Agatha Christie in my teens and love Poirot, he is a great detective! I also love Dorothy L. Sayers, Christanna Brand and the Miss Silver books by Patricia Wentworth.
I've loved discovering other golden age writers through British Library Crime and following reviews here.

I've recently read Catt Out of the Bag which was very entertaining.

Glad to have found this group!

Judy named the group, so she takes the credit for that one, Elletee :)

I loved Catt Out of the Bag too. I see there are now a couple of more books on kindle by the author, so I must investigate those.

Welcome to the group and hope you enjoy reading with us.
