Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

One Life to One Dawn.

In a land ruled by a murderous boy-king, each dawn brings heartache to a new family. Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan, is a monster. Each night he takes a new bride only to have a silk cord wrapped around her throat come morning. When sixteen-year-old Shahrzad's dearest friend falls victim to Khalid, Shahrzad vows vengeance and volunteers to be his next bride. Shahrzad is determined not only to stay alive, but to end the caliph's reign of terror once and for all.

Night after night, Shahrzad beguiles Khalid, weaving stories that enchant, ensuring her survival, though she knows each dawn could be her last. But something she never expected begins to happen: Khalid is nothing like what she'd imagined him to be. This monster is a boy with a tormented heart. Incredibly, Shahrzad finds herself falling in love. How is this possible? It's an unforgivable betrayal. Still, Shahrzad has come to understand all is not as it seems in this palace of marble and stone. She resolves to uncover whatever secrets lurk and, despite her love, be ready to take Khalid's life as retribution for the many lives he's stolen. Can their love survive this world of stories and secrets?

Inspired by A Thousand and One Nights, The Wrath and the Dawn is a sumptuous and enthralling read from beginning to end.

Tracey (addicted_to_reading) Oh, this book was just boring. It had the potential to be so much more. The characters, the plot, the setting. It had the recipe for success. But I was annoyed with the married couple. Shazi and Khalid were stupid once they fell in love. Shazi becomes predictable and dependent. Khalid becomes reckless and moronic. I just couldn't bring myself to like them. And the author completely dropped the ball with the curse. It's like she forgot that was the focus point of the book. But I was entertained in some parts so that's why this book gets 3 stars instead of 2.

Lisa I have to agree with Tracey. The book was most of the time pretty boring and every time it seemed to get interesting it didn't last long. The author spend so much time describing the surroundings and not on the plot. The cover sure is pretty but that doesn't make up for everything else. At this point I don't know if I'll be reading the second one. Probably not.

Tracey (addicted_to_reading) I know I won't be reading the second one

Julia Ember (jules_chronicle) | 1 comments I'm currently reading it. I have mixed feelings. I really, really like the story and the characters ... but in a lot of places I feel like the writing is overdone. Like, overdone to the point where the description bogs down the amazingness of the story. I'm about 2/3rd of the way through. Not sure yet if I'll read the next one or not. Depends on how it ends!

Farren (mmmcookies) I read this a few months ago,and while everyone else adored it I was very disappointed by it. I agree with Tracey and Lisa. It was so boring and overly descriptive! I don't need to read 8 pages about pillows, thank you. That's almost all of what I remember about this book actually lol And her boy toy back home annoyed me to no end, whatever his name was.

Tracey (addicted_to_reading) lol Yes, the old boyfriend was the worst. I just wanted to shake him and tell him to get over it already

Lisa I am glad I'm not the only one who didn't like it, haha. Because when I was reading it, which was in August but it took me about a month to actually finish it because I got into a really bad reading slump because of it, I felt so bad for disliking it so much when everybody else seemed to love it.

I was just so annoyed and bored with the whole story and the characters and especially the instalove. Like come on. It didn't take her long to forget about the reason she got there.

Farren (mmmcookies) I know! She forgave him for killing her friend before she even got an explanation! And once they told her why he kills his brides I was thinking that he wasn't such a monster. Him keeping that secret from his people made him look like a bad guy even though he wasn't so bad. I still don't like him enough to read the next one though lol

Tracey (addicted_to_reading) The curse is no excuse. He should have been open from the moment he fell in love with her instead of keeping secrets. It's like everyone in the story forgot they had a brain lol

Iana (bluewintersky) | 4 comments Man do I LOVE this book! This was my first experience in reading a retelling of an original story so I wasn't really sure of what to expect. Frankly, I haven't even read A Thousand And One Nights yet. But after reading this, it had me soo interested to read the original version. The Wrath and the Dawn was just SO GOOD. It was AWESOME in the purest sense. I ship Shazi and Khalid so much and their interactions with each other were just overflowing WITH feels! And the quotes. Gosh, don't even get me started with all those memorable and striking lines. Sigh. I can't wait for the second book! :D
