A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain ebook is free and audible is $.99

This is one of the dwindling number of 99¢ Whispersync classics rather than a sale. I love to use these in the "buy 4, get $10" sales!
To browse the whole list, try the link below. A word of warning, double check the prices before buying as last time I looked through the list, some of them were no longer $0.99.

Is there any place I could get an older Kindle app, that works with my ipod?

Ohhh, Heidi, so it's not me...I thought I was doing something wrong. Thankfully the Overdrive app still works on my ipod :)

I ran into this problem quite a while ago with my iPod Touch 2nd generation! One reason I decided to upgrade my cell to a smartphone last winter...
But I agree that they should keep the older versions of the apps available for people like us!

I've been a fan of Sansa Clips for several years now. The original Clips and Clip+ models are getting very pricey. The Clip Zip has decent reviews, even though it's not the most-current model. We fans at Ravelry don't know why Sansa keeps tinkering (and doing badly at it) with a product that was just fine as it was.
Aha! Here's the best deal I've seen in quite a while on the old Clip+. http://tinyurl.com/pdbbzte
Remember that you can get a micro SD card to up the memory, best not to get higher than 16GB. I've had excellent results from refurbished players, as have many others I know at Ravelry. These hold a lot of audiobooks, and work well with Audible.

And is it easy to locate the chapters , bookmarks etc ?"
Yes. If you put the book in the Audible folder, or in the Audiobooks folder, the player remembers your place. I don't know what the newer ones have, other than a sportier look and a larger screen. Check the reviews of the newer ones - I saw they had 3 stars, when the older ones generally have 4 or more, although this particular model/vendor's offering had no stars (yet?).
Long battery life, has FM radio and an audio note-recording capability(don't know features, don't use), also plays music (MP3 files).
My refurbs have all lasted 2+ years, minimum (one is going on 4+ years). That one developed a loose connection in the earbud jack.

Luckily for me I already loaded the Overdrive app onto my Ipod touch - if I had not I would not be able to load it at this time since it would be the new version and be incompatible.

What are the Sansa Clip things like that some of the people mention ? Would the apps work on them ?
And I don't know what the prices are compared to other devices that play audiobooks. How a..."
I also have an older sansa clip and love it. I have it plugged into my CD player via a line in cord :) It can not download apps - it is a player only.

I would get an older one if you can. I think I just got one within the last year so hopefully they still sell them. I love it. It is super tiny. I got one for my stepmother who is not technically inclined and she loves her. She uses the FM radio a lot on walks.

I have a newer smart phone I can use but I would rather not use my phone at night. The only thing I use my Touch for is at night before I go to sleep as an audiobook player and my alarm in the morning. Luckily I have the old Overdrive and old Audible apps already on there so I guess I will stick with them.

Jeffrey - I transfer the books from my computer to the Sansa using Overdrive and Audible Manager.

ETA: I forgot to mention that the Clip+ and Zip both have sleep timer functions. I use this when I have trouble falling asleep - a few tracks of rain and ocean sounds work quite often.

One of my vanpool friends recently purchased the Clip Sport and I had asked her at the time how it worked for audiobooks because she listens to a lot of them. At the time she had not yet tried a book, just music, and then I ended up going with the Zip. I'll have to ask her again since it's been a few months.

Some app developers support the last version of their app that ran on the older iOS; you can choose to download that version if the latest version doesn't support you device. But the app develop needs to choose to do this; it would be nice if Apple just retained the old versions if new apps deprecate support.
Rant over.

Agreed. That and the fact that they do not allow you to replace the batteries!

I have the clip+ as well

I have become a fan of some narrators I would of preferred to have that edition and poor recordings that have led me later on to return the book so I can get what I wanted; Frankenstein, and Tale of Two Cities are two examples of when this happened.

Since the Sansa clip is merely a player, you need to download/install the Audible manager to your computer, if you haven't already. Then, you need to add the mobile device you are using to your manager. After this is complete, your device manager will let you transfer/add your audible books to your device.

http://www.amazon.com/On-the-Jellicoe... and the whispersync is $3.49. I developed a slight girl crush on the narrator as her voice was fantastic. I am guessing it is because I am from the US and she was from AU and I love accents :)

Sold! Sounds very good. Thanks.

Woot woot! *crosses fingers* Hope you like it :) Just to warn you that you will likely be lost at first but stick with it! I promise it all makes sense in the end :)

Anne Charnock's A Calculated Life is fantastic, Luke Daniels is great reading Scott Meyer's "Off to Be the Wizard" comedic fantasy, Mary Robinette Kowal reads Cherie Priest's "I Am Princess X", and of course there's a bunch more this month.
I also ran down Audible's "Treat Yourself" sale with an eye (mostly) for science fiction and fantasy audiobooks: it's a long list, too.
