Thanks, Berit. I really want to read this one, but I'll need to wait for the right mood.

Thank you! It sounded good on the sample, so I grabbed it.

I’m on my phone so can’t link them right now, but if you go to amazon and search on World Book Day you will find them. They are available until April 24, I think.

hope this works....Amazon World Book Day

I think they'll probably all be good because 1) they usually don't get translated to English if they're not and 2) Audible is slow to record books originally published outside the U.S.

glad the link work. Thanks Joy for pointing these out. :-)

I did pick up The House by the River but I have not started it. A.few months ago my husband got the Kindle version of A River in Darkness: One Man's Escape from North Korea. He thought it brought up some interesting bits of life that Westerners don’t often know. It is short and I just haven’t gotten to it yet.
All the previous comments make me want to go back and pick up the rest of the books, but I’ve been having poor luck with the Amazon published books. I’ve bought many of them in the past year and am trying to get them read. However, either the writing is bad or the content. I’m discouraged from picking up more.
I have two whispersync audios of Amazon published books that I bought last fall and now I think I would prefer to read them rather than listen. I don’t want to return $1.99 audio books.
I hope I’m not making a mistake by not getting more.

Katheen, I'm normally wary of Amazon books too but I believe all of these were already published (some many years ago) in their country of origin. Not sure whether they were previously translated so Amazon may be doing that and digitizing them. But these are not Amazon authors.

I think it's great that Amazon is promoting a variety of writing, not just famous names.

The audible whispersync version is $1.99.

In the old days one could buy the audiible companion book to a kindle book one had purchased on ammy, for a reduced whiispersync price (also from the ammy site) ........ without having to be a member of audible
but
have they changed the rules ?
I have a friend who is trying to do this and says that to get the audible book she gets a message saying that she must pay a monthly membership to get audible books otherwise she can not buy an audible book from the ammy site.
Your comments would be very much appreciated.
Also what would happen if I sent her an audible book, when I finish listening to a book it says that I can send it and that every recipient's first book is on them (I am a member) would my friend then have to become a paid member to receive it ??

I think you can still get the whispersync companion books from Amazon. I bought a couple of them last week. Not all kindle books offer the audio at a reduced price though. Many of the audio books are offered at either full or higher prices than what you’re talking about. I believe it’s up to the publisher to set the price.

You do not have to be an Audible member to get the whispersync price. Your friend could also get one free audiobook from you without joining audible. It only works one time though.

Even though I thought that you could use audible without having a monthly plan - my friend still says that when trying to purchase an audible book on Amazon my friend gets told she needs to sign up for a plan on Audible.
Perhaps she should just go to the site and register there.
I think that I will advise her to get one of the plans when they are on special offer and then cancel - that way she would be able to get one or two books for free to begin with.

I have a free account with Audible and have bought a lot of audiobooks, but I haven’t bought anything lately. Are you saying that your friend never even registered to get the free account? If that’s so, she needs to register.

You need to have a free Audible account to buy whispersync books, but you don’t need to purchase an Audible membership. Of course, they always try to make you think you do. You need to carefully read the purchase box on Amazon. They often try to hide the lower price purchase option below the Audible membership pitch.

I could get past the changes, but for some reason it is only loading about 20 matches for me. It no longer is showing the "load more" option.
Curious if anyone else experiences this or if it's the browser I was using?

Good to know. I'll try another browser and see if I get different results. thanks!

As many of you may know whyspersync is round-about way to get audible discounts. However a couple things which you may not know that may help are...
1) As with the free audible originals every month for audible members, Amazon Prime members are given 1 free kindle title per month from a selection of titles
https://www.amazon.com/firstreads
(combine this with the whispersync discount for the audible version...)
2) Whispersync discount also applies to titles in Family / shared library. About a year ago I convinced the rest of my family to buy a discounted basic kindle so that we could pull off a Kindlevention for my "I prefer my paperbacks" (that were falling apart and held together with rubberbands) mother. Since my family enjoys discussing the books we are reading, I would buy her many of the titles that I had on Audible. In the early days after the Kindlevention my mother would forget to bring her kindle with her to restaurants etc so I put her on Family sharing so that she could access her library from my tablet....recently I discovered that if she bought the next book in one of the series that the family was enjoying together before I purchased the Audible version, I would get the Whispersync discounted price when I logged in to purchase it.
I hope these 2 tips are as helpful to you as they have been to me.

Hi, Ron!
Great tips! I've had an account with Audible for many years, but it took me a while to realize that I could get some of my audios cheaper (and get the ebook too!) as whispersync! I've also added my adult daughter to my family account so we can share ebooks (she's not into audios yet, but I've got her hooked on ebooks).

Thanks!

Anyone know anything about these? Last year none of them were quite right for me so I'd appreciate assistance this year from those in the know. ;)

The Hangman's Daughter has been pretty popular. It's the first book in a longer series. I can tell you that I didn't care for the narrator of Murmur of Bees very much. I haven't read that specific book, but just finished a different one that she narrated. I'm pretty easy going, but she was not enjoyable for me.
