Tina (trwriteratwork) | 70 comments Hi Sandra, I was wondering, when we do one book a month in the series, do the novellas get their own month?

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
Great question, Tanvi! I'm up for doing it either way. I'd like to leave it up to all you buddy read participants.

So weigh in, everyone:

Do you want to give novellas their own month? Or would you like to include a novella in the month with the ID book they follow?

Susan (cruelshoes) | 573 comments I am all new to this series and as previously stated had Naked in Death on my kindle for over a year and never got around to reading so this is a great way to start the series. What ever everyone wants to do is fine with me. I just started page 1 and had no idea that this takes place in the future? with all the high tech gizmos and gadgets is this correct?

Penni | 816 comments Susan wrote: "I am all new to this series and as previously stated had Naked in Death on my kindle for over a year and never got around to reading so this is a great way to start the series. What ever everyone w..."

It does take place in the future, but in a realistic way. Enough so that there are higher tech gadgets and advances in medicine and stuff but not so much to be unrecognizable.

Glad you are joining in. This will be my second ride through the series and looking forward to it.

Happy to have you join us, Susan! The futuristic side of the series made me wary at first, but it quickly blends into the whole story, romance, mystery and I hardly notice it now. I hope you'll enjoy the buddy read!

I can go either way. I plan to re-read all the novellas. I love them. If others are planning to skip them I will be glad to double up in a month to read a novella so that others do not have to skip a month if they aren't doing them.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments I'm fine either way too. I do agree with Penni that if some are skipping the novellas, then it makes sense to read them in the same month we read the book before the novella. Are the novellas mostly under 200 pages?

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
All the novellas are under 200 pages. In fact, most are about 90 pages.

In2books (in2book) | 1 comments I would prefer to read the novella in the same month with a book, but I will gladly go with the group decision...

Michelle | 2651 comments For me ? I wouldn't want to skip the novellas as some follows directly into or after a case. I'd want to include them in the month and make it three books that month. They are short enough to manage but I'll go with the majority vote.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
I don't plan to skip novellas. They're important to the series, I think. I just didn't know if you wanted to double up or devote a month to them. It would be 2 books during the month that we have one. I think we would read the full length book & the novella that follows it if we double up.

Mdy | 224 comments I like the novellas and wouldn't want to miss discussing them. I'd be glad to go along and read them along with the full length book that comes before or after them.

Let's plan to read any novella that is coming up in the same month as whatever ID book precedes it. So in those cases, we would start the month with a full length ID book and finish the month with whatever novella follows it. That way, any participant who plans to skip the novellas will not have to sit idle for a month while the rest of us read & discuss them. And as Jonetta mentioned, most of the novellas are very short. I feel confident that we can pair them up with the preceding book in one month and still do both justice.

Thanks for your input everyone!

Kirsten (kmcripn) I highly recommend that people NOT skip novellas. I skipped them first time through. (Back before Audible and e-books, I didn't even KNOW about them.) Wondered why certain events had slipped me by in the previous book, turned out I hadn't missed it - I just hadn't read it yet! LOL!

Elaine | 5 comments I have all of the In Death books and had just begun to sort them out in order. I am unaware of the novellas. I don't know how I missed something so integral to my favorite series. Is there a definitive list that includes which one to read between what books? I would love to have that so I can get them in time to read along with the group.
Lainey

Kirsten (kmcripn) Fictfact.com is a good place to go. The novellas are sold in a book with other author's work. I get mine through Audible.com sold by itself. I'm not sure how Kindle sells the novellas.

Tina (trwriteratwork) | 70 comments Great! Thanks for resolving this so quickly, Sandra! I definitely plan on reading all the novellas along with the novels in order. I already got Three In Death which has Midnight, Interlude and Haunted ID novellas. I'll get the rest in another year. :)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
You're welcome, Tanvi! Sounds like you're all set!

And we're now only about a day away!! :)

I got 7.5 free on kindle in ebook format a few years ago. All of the novellas except Midnight and Interlude can be found in anthologies (I think Big Jack is an anthology?) in kindle format. MiD and IiD are stand alones for $2.99 each.

All of the novellas can be found in omnibus editions, except for the last four (Possession in Death, Chaos in Death, Taken in Death and Wonderment in Death).

In the UK, there is an omnibus edition for Possession and Chaos in Death. There isn't a US edition.

Our book list shows the omnibus editions for all of the others.

I love this idea. I have a lot of notes in the book and highlight the e-books. I was grateful when Kindle added new colors. Pink = Eve, Blue = Roarke, Orange = other characters and Yellow = are questions or events that didn't sit right with me.

I also have an In Death Document with scenes or events I like to re-read. I think on this read through I'll use some of your ideas to add to my notes.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
I love the Kindle HL selections also, Sharon. And I've started my own notebook with a section devoted to each book that I'm keeping this time through. I hope it'll be enough to keep my memory fresh as we progress on through the series again. Going a bit slower this time is helping me process more of the little things, I think. Things I tend to read right over when I'm reading fast.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1131 comments I know I'm a little late to the party but I've been meaning to read the In Death series for donkey's years (Jonetta can tell you) and have never managed to get into it. I'm hoping that participating in a buddy read will help :0)

I've started Naked in Death and aside from the futuristic references it read like a typical police procedural so far (after chapter 1)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
I'm stunned! I've tried to get you back into this series for years! Welcome!

Welcome! Hope you enjoy it. In a way, I kind of envy you--meeting Eve and the gang was such a treat - and you won't have to wait for the next book in the series! Oh, if I could just learn to be patient!

Sara Kate (sarakate1509) Anyone starting Glory In Death yet?

Lauren, I'll be joining you as a new reader of this series, just as soon as I can get to the library, where I have Books #1 and #2 on hold.

Kirsten (kmcripn) Welcome, Charlene!!! It's never too late to join the In Death movement.

Sara Kate (sarakate1509) I'm hoping to start book two in about a week hopefully

Happy to have everyone join our buddy read! The Glory In Death thread will become a spoiler zone on Feb. 10. I plan to be ready for discussions then.
