Cheerleaders are more important than most people realize. My first two team topplers had dedicated cheerleaders and my third team toppler did not. The difference was amazing!

Lanelle, reporting for duty as captain. My 1st as Captain in doing Topplers. I do the reporting, right? And I can cheer.

I kind of like the idea of doing the final Scrabble board, but I'm worried that my lack of computer skills might hamper me. But my kids could help me with it, I suppose. Maybe someone who is more confident will volunteer.

Since I was the one that posted the first 4 messages, let me know if there's anything you'd like me to put there.

I used a 10 x 10 grid for my example, but please use a 15 x 15 board/grid for part 2. After Part 2 is completed I'm going to have the fruit machine pick some squares for the bonus points, so the boards need to be the same size.

Hi all! I'm happy to participate in my first toppler! I already found 8 Q and Z books, I hope I can read 4 or 5 of them

oh and I'm not sure what a cheerleader is supposed to do but I can try!

Hi, I'm happy to be part of this team! I have 1 Z title and 1 J title so far, working on finding more. I'd like to read 4-5 books, but probably not all of them will start with the highest ranking letter, I might do some 3-4 points ones too.

Glad to be part of the team. I have a Z book on reserve at the library and 2 V books laying around the house. I can commit to reading 2 books for sure hoping for 3. I can be a cheerleader, but not sure what they do ??

Welcome to Team 2, Ariane. I hope this toppler will be a good experience for you. I remember my first toppler; it was a lot more complicated than this one.

I'll put you down as a cheerleader. I'm sure you'll think of ways to keep a sense of fun and excitement for our team. Feel free to see what other team's cheerleaders are doing.

I was wondering how difficult part II of this challenge would be if everyone read Q and Z books. It might be a bit easier to put the titles on a Scrabble board if a few people read some 3-4 point books. I don't know.

We're happy to have you on our team, Jayme. The more cheerleaders, the better. Keeping up team enthusiasm for a whole week can be hard. Are you any good with those cute little emoticons?

Agreed and after seeing quite a few of you had the Z and Q books covered have made the decision to just read normal letter books :)

You'll get about 7 to 10 books from me.

Lanelle, I wouldn't worry too much about connecting a lot of Z and Q words. We will be able to connect them, by those letters most certainly, and if not that way, then by linking their vowels. The word "za" would be harder to link, but the word "Queen" has lots of options for linking. My guess is most of our first words will have enough vowels for us to link.

You're right. Just me worrying. But I think I'll avoid 4 letter titles and read 3 letters titles (like Zoe and Xoe: or Vampires, and Werewolves, and Demons, Oh My!) that will fit anywhere easily or longer letter titles that will be easier to work with.

I plan on reading 8 - 10 books. My short list:

Zora and Me - 13 points (a quick read, save for last))
Zero to Hero - 13 points (a quick read, save for last)
Zoned for Murder - 15 points
Xoe: or Vampires, and Werewolves, and Demons, Oh My! - 10 points

Hello Team! I am a bit late but excited to participate. I can do 5 books for sure and maybe 6 or 7.. depending on how things go. I'll start gophering. Let me know if there's any particular letter we need.

Of course, for part one, Z, Q, X, J and K are the highest scoring letters for titles.

For part two, I'm not sure as to the strategy. I'm going to focus on longer words. But I might be wrong. Hopefully other team members will share what they plan on doing.

There will be 2 of us. I will probably look at titles at my local library that is 99% French.

I am going to commit to only two books this time around.

I'm not going to worry about a strategy for Part 2. I think we will be able to fit a lot of words in. However, I see we already have several super readers who are reading a lot of books. If as a team we end up reading a TON of books, we may not be able to fit all the words in (since it's only 15 by 15 grid), but at that point we would just use the highest scoring words that would fit.

I might add a 'Z' title in Polish, too.

Question... If the title of the book begins with the word "the" then "the" counts as the first word. Correct?

I understood it to be the opposite and to not count, we don't usually count them. I could be wrong though...

Read anything you want. Using the first letter of the first word of the title (excluding The, A, and An) will determine how many points your book is worth.
