The Book Was Better discussion

The (shocking?) end to the Divergent trilogy. How did you all feel about this one? Personally....It was my least favorite...by a LOT!

They will probably turn this into two parts. Cause that's the latest money making, monkey grubbing fad...And you know they will find a way to make Tris's death/the ending super elaborate to try to pull out all the tears they possibe can. argh....

It would depend if Insurgent sells. It might. I haven't read this or the previous one but from the reviews, it's both crappy and intense.

UGH!! The story line is bad enough, if they make it into two I might literally DIE! It's bad but I really hope that if they make Insurgent, that it sucks and they STOP!

Oh, btw, Lionsgate announced that Allegiant will be made into two movies. Not sure I like it. I mean, I liked the book and everything, but there does not seem to be enough to go on for two movies....

Wow did not see that coming!!! thought it might be put in with the third book not made into 2... Hmmm dont know how i feel about that. Guess will wait and see :)

Exactly!!! In the whole series it felt like characters were dying just cuz they could...or for shock value... I was really upset about everything mostly because it was not justifies. There was not a big enough reason behind it for it to be necessary. Compare it to say Prim or Finnick.......

I read the book and almost cried. I hope they do a good job of Insurgent and Allegiant...

I agree, I think that they will split it into two films just to make more money, if they do I might just not bother going to watch them!

Oh, they are for sure making it into two.....but I don't get it.... Considering how crappy Divergent was, I don't plan on seeing the other movies in theater at all as of yet.... Unless they completely change everything about the books, I don't think they will be worth it in any way....

I preferred this book over insurgent (insurgent was slow paced). But my all time favorite was Divergent. alliegent was good because there was a lot of action and an unexpected ending. (I got spoiled before I read the ending

I will most likely see the movies. I just want to see what they do be it bad or good :D

Same that's my only reasoning for watching them, but then I will probably (definitely) get annoyed at them!

What?! Really?!??! I mean...the books were NOT great, so maybe that will make it better? I'm gunna see if I can find a link to post about that, cuz I want to know more for sure!!

Oh I'm going to have to start searching to! I know they won't be following the books with a new character- but it could be a good change for all we know.

I feel like any changes they make could only make it better, but it will be interesting to see just how much they actually change.

See....I didn't love the series, so I think changing it could make it better....cuz if they leave it as it, I won't be seeing the rest of the movie in the series... Esp since the first was so terrible!

Yeah I agree the movie was a long and dragged out... But everyone has different opinions I guess!

Being honest I hope they do add in a new character, hopefully they'll shake the story up a little!

I just linked the site! they originally posted a photo of an actor on their Facebook page and everyone was going crazy because the actor's character is called Edgar. I don't recall a character called Edgar so I googled around and found out he doesn't even exist in the books...

No much info there, but thanks SO MUCH for sharing! I will have to keep an ear out to see if more info is to come. I think adding in new people will make it much better...I hope! I just hope they do not add him in so there will be the drama of a love triangle. I will literally walk out of the theater!!

Wow Noooo not a love triangle! haha hope you didn't read the future Dana coz now all I can think about is this Edgar character being exactly that! Do you suppose they will put him in and take someone else out?

*sigh* I really dont know why anyone would sell their work for a movie adaptation and then be ok with them morphing the story. I really liked the books, I do agree the second was a little slow. I didn't notice big plot holes, granted I do need to read them again. But this is the only reason I can fathom a new characters being added. to tie up things... or make a faster paced (two) movie(/s)... thoughts?

Well...Roth admitted how many plot holes there were in her book, so maybe this is everyones way of fixing it.... I am more intrigued about these new characters than I am about the actual story we know at this point.....

How bad does it look when the author has admitted there are plot holes... was this just accepted by the publishers? did they not know about it at the time? how could they admit they didn't know when they bought the rights... so confusing to me :(

I know, right?! I don't know if it was a flat out "we messed up" or more like when asked by fans over and over they admitted some things were not really "finish" and such. I feel like the books were starting to get popular so there was a push to get them out, and they did not care if they were really good or not... Maybe when thy bought the rights they bought it with the understanding they would change things to make it actually good???? haha fingers crossed!

Same here!! I feel like if you know your characters enough to start with, then no madder what action goes on you can know how they make it to the other side and all that. I was reading a think Roth wrote about editing Insurgent, and she said the first draft was a mess of just everything thrown in and then she edited from there. I feel like she did not edit nearly enough and just figured since she got a LOT of it out it was good enough... And that makes me sad, since I think this series had WAY more potential than it ever lived up to!

dont writers pay someone to edit too? but like you say maybe time critical and they went with her edits only... :(

Yea same I will get mad if this 'new' character makes a love triangle. The book was made not to have one! Tris was devoted to Tobias and that was simply that! They were practically married! A love triangle is just a stupid idea to put in the Insurgent movie

I am actually a little glad they are making two movies that way they can add more detail unlike divergent they left out so much also I don't have to watch part two it will bare the pain!

I work with lots of "at risk" kids and something like what she does in the books is not even as bad as some of the stories I have heard... It is heard breaking!!

However....I think the relationship between Tris and Four is a crappy enough one (no trust, no talking, always keeping things to themselves) that adding in someone else would just be a plot to get people to watch. It will be even more pathetic than the first movie already was....

That really is heart breaking! I just want the new character to 'jazz' it up a bit.
