Although most of us are self pubbed, some of us I know want to query work to agents too. On the 25th on twitter #pitmad is running again. I recommend searching the hastag and reading some of the articles. But basically (including #s of genre, audeince and pitmad) pitch your work in one tweet. Agents or indie publishers favourite it and you go to their profile to see what they want you to send.

Last year I got a favourite by an Awesome agent, but I snuffed up my query letter. But I did get an acceptance from an indie publisher but in the end it wasn't right for me.

This year I kinda know what to write so if I get my WIP to word count this week I'll pitch it.

I thought maybe if anyone wanted to practice here (there are other people to pitch to, to practice) you can. Or maybe some of you didn't know about it :]

I think it runs #pitmad #pitchmas every 3 to 6months :3 so if you're not ready, it will come around again.

Neil Bursnoll | 109 comments I'm ready and have been putting stuff together to contact some agents. This is a great idea though - just need to sort out a mini pitch!

message 3: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Strong (samanthalstrong) | 206 comments I've done it a couple times, although I'm not ready to query anything right now. It's tough to get your pitch down to 140 characters, but not impossible. Don't forget to count #PitMad and include your genre!

David Thirteen (davidjthirteen) I'll be following this thread with great interest. I'm not ready for it this round, but maybe next.

@Bisky, I hadn't realized they did it more than once a year - good to know!

Rules are: twice an hour, tweet your genre and audience with a hastag.

le example:

A werewolf and a shapeshifter working as detectives in London stumble upon a secret that threatens to unravel the universe #pitmad #UF #A

Been trying to update for ages but goodreads wouldnt let me on -.-

message 8: by Neil (new)

Neil Bursnoll | 109 comments Ah. I've just found rules. That helps a bit. Didn't realise you could keep pitching throughout the day either. Thanks for the pointers too, @Bisky.

Keep going :D!

Gotta say, it's making my head explode with happiness that most of the best pitches have come from members of this forum :P

I'm so jelly ;-; I didn't get a single one! *dramatic faint*

message 20: by Neil (new)

Neil Bursnoll | 109 comments I ended up with a big fat zero too, even though there were a couple of retweets. I can take that as a good sign, even if I couldn't win over an agent or publisher. It's been an interesting experience.

Yeah it was totally fun ^^ and there's always next time! I think it's every 3-6 mo. :3 there were a lot of good ones out there, so ya know competition but such is life :)

I haven't sent any letters yet xD They all wanted different things ._.

message 24: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Michelle | 450 comments Mod
Just write a generic letter so you can send it to all of them at once! #terriblequeryadvice

message 25: by Ann (new)

Ann Thorrson (ann_thorrson) | 2536 comments Mod
Aaaahaaa xD It's taken me 12 hours to do one ._. I hope there isnt a time limit on sending them :[

message 26: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Strong (samanthalstrong) | 206 comments Probably no time limit but most people have a generic letter they customize. 2-3 paragraphs of plot/stakes, one paragraph of word count/genre, etc. And maybe an opening paragraph of "I'm querying you because you are interested in X and I found you in y." I started my query letter in Dec, revised about a dozen times with help from the Absolute Write forums, and finally sent my first in May. Then I revised a couple more times.

Wait, we are talking about query letters. Right???
