It's okay but honestly, I find it slow-paced and over-the-top in some places.
There are these gorgeous moments, but I don't like how everything is always pretty. No one is ugly, nothing lacks magic, everything is perfect all the time.
There are many characters that we follow just for bits and pieces so I have not managed yet to latch on to one of them and feel for them...
Also, I'm halfway through it and the "passionate love story" that is supposed to be at the center of it all has yet to happen.
Perhaps it's just me, too. I was expecting a dark fairytale of sorts. This is a fairy-fairytale :P
(Do I make sense? It does in my head but I'm not sure how I'm coming through...)

That being said, I still would like to visit that Cirque des Rêves, were it real ^_^

That makes perfect sense! I thought it was going to be a twisted fairy tale also between the cover and the synopsis. That is disappointing! You will have to tell me if it was worth the read after you are finished. =)

Will do! =D
Glad to see I was not the only one expecting that kinda twisted tale too! ^_^

message 106: by Aunnesha (new)

Aunnesha Just finished Shuffle, Repeat by Jen Klein and also reading The Emperor of Maladies (non-fic) by Siddhartha Mukherjee.

message 107: by Aunnesha (new)

Aunnesha So I finished Shuffle, Repeat which is a opposites-attract, When-Harry-Met-Sally-esque romance story and I'm having SERIOUS PBD (post-book depression). Does anyone have any recommendations for books like that? Shuffle, Repeat

Also, for anyone who has read the Lunar Chronicles series (Cinder etc.), do you have any recommendations of books like that? (Adventure but with a small romance) Thanks!

message 108: by [deleted user] (new)

After the crash, seems odd so far but only a tiny way through it

message 109: by K.A. (new)

K.A. (authorkamasterson) I just finished reading "The Gargoyle" by Andrew Davidson (OMG! It was amazing!) and am starting to read "Small Blessings" by Martha Woodroof.

Stitching Snow

I read this after the Lunar chronicles and found it to be similar. If you read it, let me know what you thought!

message 111: by K.A. (new)

K.A. (authorkamasterson) I highly recommend The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson. As my local librarian calls it, it's a bit quirky but you'll love the characters! It's even a romance in its most beautiful sense, not so much sexual sense.

J. | 8 comments I just finished Pale Horse Coming, about corruption and vengeance at a prison farm deep in the Mississippi swamps in 1951; it's a heck of a thriller. About to start The Violet Crow, which I understand is a murder mystery with a psychic detective :)

message 117: by Lara (new)

Lara (lbw0708) | 10 comments I'm reading A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan - the first in the series....I'm not quite sure about it at the moment, feels like it's trying to be georgette heyer-esque/adventure fantasy....it's either just missing the mark or it's not quite my style. Anyone read this and thought same or differently?
