I never read the potter books just watched the movies... but i enjoyed the cursed child. I think they really captured the essence of the original characters, of course this is in script form so maybe an actual book version where there ir more narrative could have been better, but for what it was i really liked it... is a fast read

Yes, I think you are exactly right: read it for what it is, and the lack of intricate narrative won't bother you as much. Now I really want to see the play, though.
