Nina Foster (ninafoster) I'm waiting for a book to be delivered. It was expected Oct. 3rd, but there was some delay and according to the tracking info it's still a few states away. It is "Wicked", by Gregory Maguire.
Another one I am waiting on is "Fate of the Tearling", the final book of the trilogy by Erika Johansen, That one is pre-ordered and I won't have it until Dec. 5th.

message 321: by Gal (new)

Gal I started reading All Quiet on the Western Front and so far I'm not sure how much I'm liking it... It's good, don't get me wrong. Actually, I think it's not so much the book as it is me, I'm just not very in the mood for historical fiction at the moment. I finished Room the other day and wanted something different, although, I'm afraid World War I is just as depressing if not more.
Considering switching up to a different book, maybe some generic thriller that doesn't require too much energy on my behalf.

I like the Pit and the Pendulum too, and The Cask of Amontillado, The Tell-Tale Heart...lots of them, most of them are quite short stories, so I wouldn't have too much trepidation giving one a try. The language can be a little daunting if you aren't used to that era, but knowing that going in, it should be easy.

Should be good but it's hard to get into it, I find... Might just be the small font size, however. My eyesight is terrible and small print is a nightmare.

message 348: by Jenni (new)

Jenni I am reaching After Alice by Gregory Maguire. I am finding this a tough read! It is less than 300 pages, but I have read entire series in the time it's taken me to get through 63 pages of this book because I keep putting it down. Some books are like that, and eventually get you hooked. I hope it's worth it in the end... can anyone enlighten me?

Nina Foster (ninafoster) Jenni wrote: "I am reaching After Alice by Gregory Maguire. I am finding this a tough read! It is less than 300 pages, but I have read entire series in the time it's taken me to get..."

I have not read this, but what things are you finding tough about it?
I am currently reading his book "Wicked."

message 350: by Jenni (new)

Jenni I liked Wicked; very clever and a bit twisted. It's definitely written in the same style - but so far the plot isn't as gripping and not nearly as twisted. Wicked gives the wicked witch a great backstory, but so far this is just Alice in Wonderland without the nonsense and with less likeable characters. Based on the blurb I was expecting something else, but maybe I just need to keep reading. Hope you enjoy Wicked as much as I did!
