Did you have expectations of The Martian? Was it as good as you imagined it to be? Was it worth all the ruckus? Or was it as disappointing as you expected from a highly popular book?

Reading the description I pictured a science fiction novel about a man trapped on Mars. I thought maybe he would find new crazy things about the planet, like old life-forms or something. I guess I also kinda expected some Martians. That would have been an entirely different book, though.
So the book didn't fulfill those expectations (about the Martians, at least), but it was a great book.

Yes, I have to agree with you. I didn't read the description myself...I never read descriptions.
So I was expecting a Martian really, except his suit kind of gives it away.

Frankly, I didn't have overly high expectations of the book, because I know that bestsellers can be overrated sometimes, but I didn't really expect it to be so bad either.

For me, it is worth all the ruckus. I'm amazed at how extensive the research had to be for that book to be written, and still be entertaining and hilarious.
