Simone Frigerio | 48 comments Weeks ago, to my utter surprise, whilst watching an episode of Ray Donovan (Showtime) i found Bronson Pinchot, in a very funny guest spot.

More recently, i found Mare Winningham as the cleaning lady on the new AHS: Hotel

I wondered if someone else has happened to stumble upon some narrator, on TV or at the movies?

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 243 comments Not on TV or in a movie, but my kids downloaded an app on my Kindle Fire... Disney Palace Pets, I think, and they were listening to the app narrator read stories about each pet, and I went, "HEY!! That's Rosalyn Landor!!!!"

Honestly, I don't know what most of the narrators I listen to look like! But I'd probably recognize a lot of their voices!!

As it happens, the two narrators you mentioned were first known as actors. The narrator gig came later. But it is odd to find a favorite narrator somewhere you didn't expect them.

Yes, i knew that about Winningham, but i'd never see
Pinchot anywhere before seeing him on RD...

Ashley Marie | 563 comments I do love it when actors read audiobooks -- Victor Garber read Bunnicula and Jason Isaacs read A Monster Calls and they were both awesome :)

Simone Frigerio | 48 comments It seems that S. King books are often read by "VIP voices"....

message 7: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie | 563 comments Oh! And Kate Mulgrew of Star Trek and OITNB reading NOS4A2 :) she was phenomenal.

message 8: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 2212 comments Simone, Pinchot is most famous for an American comedy TV show called Perfect Strangers from the 80s or 90s.

Patricia (pjaye) | 447 comments When I was at my mother's place over Christmas last year, I was getting ready in the bathroom and had my book playing via the Bluetooth speaker.
I was listening to The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and when I finished in the bathroom, Mum initially said "you gave me a fright, I thought there was a strange man in there with you" Then she asked who that was talking as he sounded familiar, I had to look up the name and told her it was some guy called Jim Broadbent and she said he was a well known actor and been in lots of things...I had no idea. She insisted that I would have seen him and knew who he was, she mentioned a few things he was in and then added, "and he was in that Bridget movie, you know the actress with the crinkly face".
Sure enough he played Bridget Jones' Dad in the film.
I wouldn't have made the connection, but my mother did straight away.

I also recently discovered that Julia Whelan was in a TV series called Once and Again, I've never seen it but am tempted to get it just to see if I have flashbacks to some of her audiobooks characters!

Yes she's one of those people who, when watching a TV show or a movie, will list all the other things that each actor has been in. And if she can't remember it drives her nuts until she looks it up...or rather makes me look it up.
It gets a tad frustrating sometimes, Dad used to go along with her, but if I'm visiting sometimes I just want to say "who cares what he was in 10 years ago, just watch this darn show!"

Mara Pemberton (marapem) | 233 comments Long before Bronson Pinochot was a narrator he was on a show called PERFECT STRANGERS and was one of Tom Cruise's friends in RISKY BUSINESS.

message 15: by Linda (new)

Linda | 97 comments I LOVED Perfect Strangers, and Bronson Pinochot specifically, he was so funny. :)

The last book I listened to was NOS4A2 and I have to agree with Ashley that Kate Mulgrew did a fantastic job at narrating.

Jim Broadbent - I'll have to look for him as a narrator. I can never see him again other than in his role in the movie Moulin Rouge.

message 16: by Jeanie (new)

Jeanie | 4024 comments A while back in this group I had listed Jim Dale as my all-time favorite narrator. Someone replied: You mean the guy who does the voice-over narration for the TV show Pushing Daisies... I never knew he narrated audiobooks... I'll have to see what he has narrated.

I nearly fell over. It never occurred to me that the voice of Harry Pottter in the US might only be known by someone else for narrating a TV show.
