❆ Crystal ❆ (crystal_wright) | 310 comments I'm looking forward to it too, and this is my first book from this author as well. The reviews are awesome. I'm on hold with my library for the audiobook. I'm next in line so I should be able to start soon.

message 3: by Ethan (new)

Ethan I'm excited to discuss this one with everyone. I was lucky enough to get an ARC from William Morrow and really enjoyed reading it. I've never read any other books by Slaughter. After this one, I'm definitely ready to see what else she's done.

Sandysbookaday (taking a step back for a while) (sandyj21) | 4769 comments I have got this one sitting on my Kindle! So good excuse for it to jump the list and read it early. I have read several previously and have enjoyed them.

❆ Crystal ❆ (crystal_wright) | 310 comments LOL, Loretta, what a funny story. I hate when that happens. I hope you can call or go online to get on the wait list for the book. I'm glad you found 5 more to pique your interest.
It was kind of funny, (I'll have to take a picture, but at my library today, I noticed a tape outline of a body on the floor by all the murder mystery books. I thought that was just classic! I love my library!

Sounds great Ethan... do you mind me asking what you rated it?

Sounds great! I'm so glad it got picked and we can all read it together.

I ended up giving it 4 stars. I always hesitate to link to my blog in discussion posts, but since you asked...you can read my full review here: http://e135-abookaweek.blogspot.com/2...

That's great Ethan. I glanced at your review but it has a lot of details, so I'll read it in full when I'm done reading so I don't spoil anything about the book. 4 stars is high approval. Thanks for sharing and I hope you'll join in on the discussion.

Autumn (autumnmemory80) | 374 comments I am so excited to read this book with everyone! Karin Slaughter is a wonderful writer and I loved each and every book she has written. I think you will all be very happy if you have not read her work before! Happy reading, everyone!

message 13: by Catja (new)

Catja | 14 comments This is my first Karin Slaughter book , looking forward to reading and discussing. Did anyone else read the shirt story that is a prequel to this book? I think it's called Blonde Hair , Blue Eyes. It's about 50 pages and seems to be the set up for Pretty Girls. I'm curious as to why the author would release it in in a separate book and not as a chapter in thus book.

message 14: by Annette (new)

Annette Macintyre | 70 comments So many of you say this is the first Slaughter book you have read. I read her first book years ago and look foward to everything she publishes. Happy reading you have a lot tolook forward to.

Paris (kerbytejas) (kerbytejas) | 4862 comments Great book pick - and great author, I've read almost all of her books and really like her as an author

message 16: by Evelyn (new)

Evelyn Murray | 2 comments Karin Slaughter, such an appropriate name for an author of this genre. I read her first couple of book. Then I cmae back to the series further on. Big mistake as the characters had grown while I was not reading.
It will be good to return to her novels.

Ethan Kay Pamela wrote: "This is my first Karin Slaughter book , looking forward to reading and discussing. Did anyone else read the shirt story that is a prequel to this book? I think it's called Blonde Hair , Blue Eyes. ..."

The short story follows Julia Carroll in the few days before she disappears. While it is interesting to get her POV, it doesn't really add to to overall story of the novel. I think is plays more like a tease for the story to come.

Sandysbookaday (taking a step back for a while) (sandyj21) | 4769 comments Started Pretty Girls Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter today....but forgot to charge my Kindle last night.....and I don'thave to spell it out do I! I am so cross with myself GRRRRRRRR 8:(

Chris | 51 comments I'll be starting it when I finish Du Maurier's Rebecca. Hopefully this weekend. Love it when an author gets rave reviews in general.

message 24: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea Humphrey (suspensethrill) I'm excited to start Rebecca! Funny bc I was supposed to read it in school way back and skipped it. Now I'm excited to read it of my own free will.

message 26: by Tad (new)

Tad (tottman) | 139 comments I managed to snag a copy from the publisher a few weeks ago. Here's my spoiler-free review: http://jadbb.blogspot.com/2015/10/pre...

This is going to make my best books of the year list. I've had a couple Karin Slaughter books on my shelf but this is my first read of one of her books. She's going on my must read list now.

There is some real brutality in this book for anyone sensitive to a lot of violence, but it was also an amazing story that completely immersed me in the impact that these crimes have on families and individuals, both short and long-term. The letters from a father to his missing daughter were heart-wrenching.

I loved the characters and the pacing of this book. I get excited just thinking about it again.

message 33: by Amy (new)

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 587 comments Oh nice..."Pretty Girls" is also the Nov selection as well! I see its Oct/Nov read. I thought it was just Oct and I would miss it based on other participation reads for book groups and a personal choice in between. I will still have a chance to read it with the group. I'll buy it this week. I have a feeling I'm going to love this Karin Slaughter! :) Just took out "Blindsighted" from her this week.

message 48: by VickiLee (new)

VickiLee | 483 comments Karin Slaughter never falters in her vivid and sometimes disturbing descriptions when telling a story. Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter Pretty Girls (such a deceptively sweet title) digs deeply into the twisted psyche of those who indulge in pedophilia and violent pornography. Slaughter, while not rose-colouring any ugliness, still writes with enough sensitivity about her subjects that we as readers continue the journey with her. It is a fine novel, ruthless, heartbreaking yet, in the end, hopeful.

I completely agree. While this is an extremely graphic, often disturbing story, it is ultimately about the power of family and hope.

message 50: by ❆ Crystal ❆ (new)

❆ Crystal ❆ (crystal_wright) | 310 comments I just finished... I gave it 4 stars. I started with the audiobook but the narration was terrible and by chapter 3 I gave up and switched to the book. Thank goodness my library had both! I almost bought the audiobook because I was impatient, and now I'm so glad I waited to borrow it.

Here's my review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I do have to say that my pulse it STILL racing.
