but I have already completed it. I definitely recommend it. This is a book about an important story, with an important detective at an important historical period for mystery writing. This is the period when we 1st see mystery novels written and this case influenced the early genre. So concerns the history of mystery. And it is an entertaining read. I am now reading a mystery but not from a historical time period.

I just finished The Secrets of Wishtide. It was great! The only downside it is the 1st of a series so I have to wait to read more. It is set in Victorian Times. The Secrets of Wishtide

I just completed The Gate Keeper by Charles Todd in the Ian Rutledge series which actually fits the History & Mystery sub genre. It is set after WWI and Ian Rutledge is an Inspector for Scotland Yard. I have been reading a lot of Courtroom mysteries lately so they usually aren't set in historic periods. I am now realing a Historical fiction but don't think there is a mystery.

What are you guys reading?

I'm reading Bluebird, Bluebird by Attica Locke, murder and racial tension in Texas.
I found a new (to me) Australian writer, Avon Judd Stallard, a series set in WW1 and another novel set in an internment camp. Not expensive on Amazon either, I may give him a try soon.

My family is from Texas and I was born there but we moved. Then moved there for a while when my husband went back to school. Glad to be back in the Northwest. Where in Texas is the setting?

The Australian writer sounds interesting.

It is in the eastern part of the state.

I've stalled on the book actually and gone back to Silver, by Andrew Morton, a sequel to Treasure Island.
Morton is a former British Poet Laureate so writes well.

If you like crime fiction and Australian writers you should look at Candice Fox, James Patterson has used her as a co-writer for several of his novels but her stand alone books are exceptional.

I just completed A Curious Beginning . A series that may build to be quite intriguing. I am not sure yet. Reminds me of the Beekeepers series.

Just started the first of Dana Stabenow's Kate Shugak mysteries.

At this stage I'm sure to add them to my regular series list, set in Alaska among the native people in a national park setting... what's not to like?

I read the 1st of the series and will probably read more. Enjoy.

I just finished a series where the detective has an interest in archaeology so there is always a contemporary and historical mystery in the same book. It is Kate Ellis' Wesley Peterson series set in Devon England.

I am going to read now the 2nd Laetitia Rudd set in Victorian England by Kate Saunders.

However for my last book I took a break from the strict mystery-history sub genre to read the Huntress by Kate Quinn. They are hunting for a Nazi war criminal so it is basically mystery like and although set in current times it is dealing with WWII times so that is the historical setting. I gave it a rare 5 stars. Just like the Kate Saunders I had read the previous book written by the author but forgot!
