message 13: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm a little late to it. I've only just started my first book as I've had a hectic day. We had to move our boat this morning and regardless of how far we move it always seems to write off half a day. We did pick up our lovely new bridge on the way which I'm really excited about. Sad I know! But for a few months we had no fridge then for the last few months we've only had a 12v coolbox which we turned off at night. It feels very luxurious to have a proper fridge with an icebox too. my wine is chilling nicely in there right now. In fact, I think it might be time to same it's effectiveness ;-)

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) | 1152 comments I just got back from a day out with my parents, children and husband to Amsterdam, for my father's birthday. I tried to read something during the train ride home, but didn't get much done. So now a few minutes at the computer and then I'm off!

Happy Toppler, everyone!

message 16: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments A little late saying hello to everyone. Not many folks talking right now... everyone must be reading.

Sarah, your boat sounds so cool. Congrats on the fridge. Could go for some wine right now, but don't have any at home. Plus it would make me sleeepy... aren't you feeeling sleeepy, Sarah?

It took me a moment to realize you didn't get a bridge and a fridge :) Hooray on getting your fridge, that is something to be excited about.

I have a bottle of wine waiting too, but it's chilly enough that I might have hot chocolate with some Frangelico. I have the deck door open so Callie can go out. Do you have windows big enough to get a good airflow?

I love your life, Sarah! I think I must have lived a former life on the canals, I'm that fascinated by it!
I, too, am getting a late start, having just returned home from my brother's birthday party. They all wanted me to stay for dinner, but I made my exit, claiming a "need to read." Some of the guests looked at me like I'm cracked, but I know my brother gets it. He's pretty use to my addiction!

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) | 1152 comments Hurray for Triple Threat!
Do you know I have a book called like that? A set of 3 books by Bob Moats - I have no idea if they are any good - has any of you ever read a book by him?

Sam F | 246 comments Question - if my book's first word has a hyphen in it, does the second part of the word still count? E.g. Life-changing Can I count Lifecha

message 29: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments I got a very late start yesterday, as I had to window-shopping with my mom, then a friend came over. But, I was able to get a quarter of the way through my first book last night, and this morning bumped me up to half. I'm going to be listening to my second book while making dinner for family coming over this morning. Going to hit the corn maze and pumpkin patch with my nieces!

Hmmm...that's a tough one since the hyphen is used to make words into a phrase so often, but I say OK - go for it.

message 38: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I have done no reading at all today which is a poor show. I've been on an Indian cookery course all day which was fantastic. I've eaten so much today. I came home with a doggy bag too so that was dinner sorted for my partner. He's gone out again tonight so I should get some reading done now.

message 39: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I would love to take a cooking course on Indian food, and Thai, and Korean, and so many more. There aren't any offered around here :(

message 40: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Must go read now to add to the Triple Threat. Apparently, unlike some others ( ☺ ), I can't read and chat at the same time.

message 41: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments It's my first cookery course J'mom but it was so good. All of the schools courses are vegetarian and they have a wide variety of courses. In the new year I'm going to do a Thai course and a sourdough course. I've caught the bug.

message 42: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I'm so jealous! I looked and found that the WVU Extension Service sometimes offers a Dining with Diabetes class to help change your lifestyle, which could be useful to me.

And there's instructions on crocheting a mat using plastic shopping bags. They make sleeping mats for the homeless. The mats will repel parasites and are moisture resistant, durable, lightweight, easy to store, and make a great temperature barrier. I never thought of something like that even existing.

message 43: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I have to celebrate! My sister-in-law found a lump was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was early on and had a double mastectomy. All is well now, and NO chemo required! We are all so happy and grateful. Of course my brother is telling her she can go for the Wonder Woman look with her reconstructive surgery.

I have one of these mat projects started. I think it is difficult to work with PLARN (plastic yarn).

I have a crocheted tote made from plastic grocery bags that I use for carrying groceries or library books.

I love it. Very Green!☺

It didn't look easy to get the plarn ready, and they said it was very time consuming.

Good for you Almeta! I should actually get off my butt and do better about going green.

The plastic doesn't slide over needles or hooks the way nice fuzzy yarn does.

Cutting the strips isn't too bad, but your house will be over-run with plastic bags!

You will:

Start obsessing about shopping at stores with beautiful bag colors and become a repeat customer just so you can get an extra bag!

Force your friends to buy something so that you can have her bag too!☺

Find bags of bags dropped off at your front door by well-meaning anonymous persons, who are eager to get their trash out of their house and into yours.
