The Lightning Squad discussion

The very front of the school, where kids hang out a lot of the time. The School is open on weekends too, so kids come here to hang out then as well.

Nico stood outside against the wall, a book in her hands that she was reading. She had an hour to kill until it was time to get to her job, so the dark haired girl figured she would read outside for a bit.

Crystal walked over to Nico. "Hey. So, your new here I'm guessing?" Crystal said. Crystal had known someone named Nathan Lowell, a guy who'd gone to Gotham Prep, but a week ago he'd transferred to Salem Prep. Crystal was curious about the new comers. There were at least three this year alone.

Nico looked at Crystal, a bored look in her eyes. She guessed just by looking at the other girl that she was one of the popular girls. "No" She answered simply, having gone to this school since the beginning of the year, although it didn't surprise Nico that Crystal had no idea who she was, no one did.

"I'm Crystal. You've probably seen me around, but just wanted to say hi and I hope your coming to the next Football game. I heard that we are going to be playing Salem Prep at the next game" Crystal replied

Nico quirked a brow, she had never once attended a sports game, so why start now besides she had a shift that day. "I can't" Nico said, not offering more on the subject.

"Oh well, maybe you'll hear about the game the next day"

Nico rolled her eyes "Sounds great" She said her voice thick with sarcasm.

"Anyways, I've got to go find my sister, so cya around" Crystal replied and went to look for Anna

Nico looked back to her book, after checking her watch. She still had a half hour before she had to leave for work More time to read She thought, going back to reading.

Crystal found Anna all alone by the flag pole. She got her sister and they left the school.

Joss walked up to the school entrance. He sighed. It was his first day there. What would people think of him?
He was terrified of rejection...

Nico listened to the sounds around her, everyone walked by her not even glancing at the dark haired female. It was the way Nico liked it, always being the one no one saw.

Joss walked up the cream coloured stone steps, his nerves running wild. He took a deep breathe. He needed to calm down. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a girl. He turned towards her. Maybe he could make a new friend...but would if she-
Shut up. He told himself firmly. It's not like everyone's going to hate you the first time they look at you.
"Hello." He said, his Irish accent still thick, even after spending an entire year in America.

Nico looked up from her book, turning to face Joss "Hi" The dark haired female said, her thoughts going to why so many people were noticing her that day. On a normal day, she could go the entire day unnoticed but today it seemed everyone actually saw her.

"Um...." He said nervously. "I'm Joss." He shifted from foot to foot. "I'm new here."
Ugh, you idiot. He told himself. He felt kind of awkward.

Nico raised an eyebrow "Nico" She told him, holding her hand out to him in a way of showing she was okay with him. She slipped her book back into her bag, figuring she would be able to read on her break.

Joss resisted the strong urge to flinch. He took her hand and shook it. "It's nice to meet you." He told her.

"Yeah...don't get used to it" Nico said, giving his hand a quick shake before dropping it. She leaned back against the wall "So where did you come from?" Nico questioned curiously.

He looked down. "Ireland." He replied shortly. He wondered what she meant by 'Don't get used to it'.

Nico nodded, she remember her parents went on a business trip there when she was 5. "It must be pretty strange for you here then" She said, motioning to the school and surrounding area. Nico had grown up here, and knew this town like the back of her hand.

"Well, here is pretty strange." He said. "But I've been in America for about a year now. I've just moved to this area for the school." He glanced at the architecture of the school.

Nico nodded, taking a quick look at the school. It wasn't a high end school, but it was better then some she had seen. "What is it like in Ireland?" She asked, she had asked the same to her parents as a child, but they merely overlooked her and didn't answer. Quit thinking about them, they have the twins now. They don't matter Her mind pointed out.

Joss smiled, but then frowned. In his memories, Ireland had been beautiful to his eyes....but the people he'd come across weren't as nice as they seemed.
"Ireland is wonderful. It's full of nice people, depending on where you live. And the buildings are kind of different from the ones in America. And here, in America, you guys drive on the wrong side of the road." He told her with a smile.

Nico chuckled before nodding "A warning most people here aren't nice." She told him, thinking of all the people she had met.

"Oh." He said. Then asked, "Why aren't they nice? You seem like a good person." He looked down at the ground and kicked a stray pebble off of one of the steps to the school. He twitched. Now the other step had the pebble on it. There weren't any rocks on the other steps, so that made the other look out of pla-
He cut his thoughts short and forced himself to turn away. He did not need to have some stupid mental breakdown on his first day. Over a freaking pebble.

"Because American's are assholes" Nico answered him simply, she smirked slightly when he said she looked like a good person "If you say so" The dark haired girl shrugged, she didn't think she was a good person.

He smiled at her. "So, what book were you reading?" He asked, remembering that she had been reading before he interrupted her.

"A book on Ancient Egypt" Nico said, pulling out the book to hand it to Joss to look at. "Its light reading"

Joss took the book from her and looked at the cover. "Ancient Egypt, huh?" He muttered. He'd always liked things like this. Greek, Egyptian, Roman, Norse, or any kind of mythology or just plain information. He handed it back to her. "Cool."

"It was a gift from a co-worker, its been rather interesting" Nico told him, putting the book back in her bag.

"It looks like a good book." He said. He looked down at his feet theen back up at her. "How old are you? if you don't mind me asking." He added quickly running a hand through his hair. When he was younger, he learned the hard way not to ask a woman her age....

"13" Nico answered with a shrug, she seemed older to most people, something of which always made her chuckle because they were always surprised to find out how old she really was.

He nodded in response. "I'm fourteen." He said. He wondered what the age limits were for the school.

"Its nice to finally meet someone at least close to my age" She said, actually finding herself having a good time. The young teen couldn't remember the last time she actually enjoyed talking to someone else.

"Are there not many younger people here?" He asked. The nervous feeling started to creep back up on him. That meant that he'd probably never fit in. Not that he had before, anyway.

"No, there's actually quite a few, I just don't socialize with them" Nico replied shrugging once again. It wasn't her fault that most of her age group annoyed the hell out of her.

"Oh." He said. "Why don't you?" He asked. Were they the mean ones she was talking about?

"I don't get along with people, they are rude, irresponsible, ignorant and have no idea what the real world is really like" Nico said, her voice going a little bitter, much like it did when she spoke of her dislike for most people.

"I can agree with that." He muttered under his breathe. Most people he'd met were like that. He hesitated before speaking. "Do you think I'm like that?" He asked.

Nico thought about it, she had to admit he was better then 90% of the people at the school "Nah, you're pretty cool" She answered after a few minutes of silence.

He smiled slightly. "Thanks." He said. "You're pretty cool, too."

"Not really but thanks for saying it" Nico said, with a shrug. She looked at her watch, it was almost time to go to work "I have to get to work, you can come if you want" The dark haired girl told him.

"Sure, I'll come." He didn't really have anything better to do than go home....and he didn't really want to do that. "Where do you work?" He asked.

"An Italian café downtown, its a nice little place" Nico answered as she began walking.

Joss began to follow her. "Cool." He walked by her side. "Wait," He said. "Aren't you a little young to be working?"

"They think I'm 15, and I plan to keep it that way" Nico said, allowing him to know one of the little secrets she had.

Joss smirked. "I won't tell anyone." He told her. "Where's the café?"

"Its about 20 minutes away" She answered him, as she continued walking. Normally she would teleport there, but with Joss around she wasn't about to reveal her powers.

Joss nodded. "Okay." He replied and kept walking he looked down at the ground. He felt himself begin to get lost in thought and snapped his head up, trying to pay attention to the things around him. He didn't feel like thinking about anything right now. Not while he was around people.
