I'm not really a werewolf, vampire kind of reader, but I have to say that this is a completely new look at that whole genre. There are actually some good ones and of course some bad ones that pop up as a surprise. The path of the story reminded me of my usual read - the spy thriller. There are escapes, runs through the woods, hiding from the unknown, secret plane fights, long drives down narrow trails in the middle of nowhere and misdirection all while not knowing the good from the bad and finally finding out who is who.
The fact of the matter is that this could very easily pass for a really well written spy thriller -- chasing and being chased, searches for truth and not believing it when it's found. The evil weird beings - you'll find out there are others - can be the terrorists and the good ones can part of the good team. I fell in love with the whole route along which I was taken.
Descriptions of locations placed me in the midst of the story. Dialogue reminded me of folks with whom I've actually spoken or phrases that I've heard in various parts of the world. There is comedy, the kind that people use to assuage angst and very often the writing compels one to keep turning the page.
Finally, like the other reviewer, I would love to see this as a film and it would fit in with today's unique attraction to the whole vampire thing. Loved it and can't wait for book 2.
