Summary:
Heidi is the main character of this book. It is about her and her mom, So B. It. Her mom is mentally disabled and Heidi does not know exactly what her disability is. Her mom keeps saying the word "soof". Heidi has asked what that word means and her mom cannot relay words to her. One day Heidi was cleaning out their closet and found some pictures. One picture had 3 people in it. The one person looked like her mother. In the background of this picture was a house that looked familiar. When Heidi showed her mom the picture, all she would say was "soof". Heidi saved enough money to get to the house. As she walked to the house, there was a gentleman sitting in the chair. When the door opened, he turned around and yelled "soof". The gentleman started to have a temper tantrum. The nurse came to control the man, but was not able to. She then yelled for the owner. The owner calmed the gentleman down. Heidi then asked him about her mom. He would not tell her anything. The nurse said she would try talking to him but it may take a couple of days. The nurse offered for Heidi to stay at her house. The nurse and her husband were very nice to her. While there, Heidi received a phone call that her mom had passed away. She went to the house again and told the owner her mom was dead. He then told her about her mom. He told her that "soof" was the name that the gentleman who was in the chair called her mother because he could not say her name. Ever since they were separated, he would not stop saying that word. Heidi then found out that the gentleman who continued to say "soof" was her dad. That the owner of the home found out Heidi's mom was pregnant and didn't believe two mentally disabled people could have a normal child. He then kicked her mom out of the home and would pay for all the expenses for everything she and the child would need. Since the death of her mother, Heidi didn't have anywhere to stay. The Nurse said she could live with her.
