Anita Reads | 1677 comments I finally finished:
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, #4) by J.K. Rowling

I added it to the finished books. It works for several goals, but none of the current.

- Read a book with the word aggregate in the text

- Read a book where the world ends

- Read a book set in the time period "Middle Ages"

- Read a book where the first word of the text is They

- Read a book shelved (listed on the first page of the "top shelves" of the book) as next-up - plurals and minor spelling variations are acceptable

If anyone else has kindle unlimited - there's a book on there called The Hierophant. It's YA fantasy. I'm hesitant about reading it because of the genre, but will give it a go

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Finished book for Hierophant.
Updating spreadsheet...

*note: Pretty Girls work for this one*

message 358: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3795 comments I'm reading pretty girls but who knows when I'll be done. About 18% in right now

message 359: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments I'm reading it too. Got to second day :)
I'm kinda waiting to fall behind little more so I don't have to stop every few pages to answer Q :P

It doesn't have to be Pretty Girls, I just checked books I have going to see if any has that tag.
I'm not sure how minor variation can be. BOM is up-next so that works, but couple books we already have finished are more in line next-for reading. I think that would be stretching it.
American Gods also work, but that one is little too far still :)

message 360: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3795 comments I agree. I love doing the BOM DQs but I always forget where the stoppages are for each day.... And with a thriller if you go ahead you may have more answer for the DQs if you know too much.

message 362: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments I usually bookmark cutoffs so I know where it's end of the day. And when I fall behind (which is always, but not always on purpose ☺), I do stop on bookmark, answer questions and go back to reading. I hate when I have to stop and then wait for next day to continue. What if something happened on cutoff that can't wait?!

message 363: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments I'm off to bed. Night everyone. See ya in the morning

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I have been lax in addding my books as I read them, but they haven't fit any of our current open goals when I check our list, which I check at least once every day.

I will add the books to my shelf that I finished this week tomorrow.

message 365: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) They still count for points even if they don't match a goal!

Eni | 2349 comments Tina wrote: "I'm starting Clarity today, will that work for the goal "Read a book where a character has lost one of their senses"? The MC was born blind."

Ok Tina we got the ok on this one =)

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments Stacie is a machine for reading wrote: "They still count for points even if they don't match a goal!"

Yes, but during the week I usually only get online on a computer if something urgent comes up and it is easier to add books to my shelves that way. I was checking the goals to see if I needed to get on right away and post a book for a goal or if it could wait until the weekend. This early I didn't think it mattered too much if my book points were added on a weekly basis if they weren't being used for an open goal.

If it does, I will at least try to remember to use an actual computer for my checkins more often during the week.

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Oh okay. Just making sure :)

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I'm on my phone but I just started a book where the first word is They if that is still an open goal. I won't be finished for a couple of days though.

That's great :)
Also no problem, just add books when you can and maybe some interesting info about them? Or at least keep eyes on goals and let us know when your books fit. For most goals we can't know if we didn't read a book.

message 372: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Updated spreadsheet with Tina's blind person

NEW GOAL
Read a book with a man on the cover

I need to step away from comp for a while so I'll check what we have after. Unless one of you volunteers her book before that :)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments BTW we have a boon now and we can use it in next two weeks.

In case you have no idea what I'm talking about, if we get a goal we want to skip, we can use boon. Captains will post that they want to skip this and this goal and it disappears.
Every two weeks we'll get new boon, and unlike in Gladiators they don't add up. So if we don't use it, we'll lose it.

So if we get a goal you think it's worthy of boon, feel free to speak.

Added to shelf now.

Had a v slow weekend as have had a splitting headache for the last 2 days. Hoping it sorts out soon so I can get back to reading and enjoying life.

Struggling not just to finish Pretty Girls - intrigued to see what happens in the second half and wish there wasn't this break day in the middle!

I would just continue reading it. I think most people will finish it early and go back and answer the questions each day.

I'd use it, unless someone else has a suitable book.

Whenever I've read the BOM before I've just read them at my pace and finished them. Not sure why I'm trying to be disciplined with this one! Especially since I'm about to start the backroom one as well and there's no way I can keep it up for 2 books at once.

The Nine Worlds in Norse Mythology
Little fun for Norse teams

How to play
There are 9 worlds to choose from.
◈ Each team member that completes a task in world receives 5 points for their team
◈ Team members can complete a task more than once
◈ Any team that completes all tasks in all worlds receives a bonus 10 points
◈ Books read from start of TT till December 15th can be used
◈ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for Tower Teams
◈ Book can be used only for one task
◈ The usual book length rules apply: Books must be more than 100 pages in length and Children's books and Graphic Novels can not be used unless by word count they can be verified as more than 25,000 words using arbookfind.com
◈ There will be a spreadsheet for the Captains to update and track the teams points
This is challenge just for fun and does not have any connection with points to Tower Teams. Nobody has to feel obligated to participate.

What you win

The Nine Worlds in Norse Mythology
Little fun for Norse teams

Asgard - home of the gods and goddesses. In the middle of the world, high up in the sky is Asgard. Connected to other worlds with Bifrost (Rainbow Bridge). Part of Asgard is reserved for Valhalla, place where worthy Vikings 'go' for the afterlife.

- Read book where all letters of VALHALLA can be found in title, author and/or series (all 3 can be used)

Vanaheim - home of old gods - masters of magic and sorcery and predicting the future. Nobody knows where exactly the land is located, or even how it looks like. According to some versions of Norse cosmology it seems to be poised between the heavens and the earth.
- Read book tagged as magic
- Read a book where main character is wizard/witch
- Read a book set anywhere on Earth
- Read a book with something/someone in between (eg. between jobs, looking new place to live, 'third' in relationship,...)
- Read a book where someone can predict future (eg. visions, tarot, tea leaves,...)

Alfheim - home of the Light Elves set near Asgard in the heaven. The light elves are beautiful creatures. They are considered the "guardian angels" and are minor gods nature and fertility and inspiration to art or music.

Jotunheim - home of the Giants consist mostly of rocks, wilderness and dense forests, so the giants lives from the fish in the rivers, and the animals in the forest, because there is no fertile land. The whole world was created from the corpse of the first Giant. Jotunheim is separated from Asgard by the river, which never freezes over. They are hideous and can be of a great pain in the neck to the humans many describe them as being extreme annoying. The dark elves are nothing but trouble. I've only completed a couple books so far, but here's where they fit!

[bookcover:The Mapping of Love and Death]

Midgard
- Read a book where someone bites
Library of Souls

Alfheim
- Read book with beautiful cover
[bookcover:The Heir]

I'm afraid that book is too short for challenge. Since it's a play we are not going by pages on gr but by word count. Minimum is 25000 and this one has about 22000. Sorry. :(
You can still read it, just don't put it on your challenge shelf. :)

You don't have to worry about every book now. :)
Shakespeare is play and as one it doesn't have full page of words (we are going by assumption that there are 250 words on page). So in cases like that, we need to check word count. Same thing goes for poetry and children's books.
