Alessandra Casiello (apetrino1) | 320 comments Hello team! I am excited for our challenge to begin.

Once people accept my friend request, I can update our Team Shelves post for everyone to have access to each other's shelves and make it easier for each person to find them.

JackAttack | 236 comments Hey all :) Very excited for this! Have my shelf set up - its under Tower Team 4 Coyote.

Katie | 1634 comments Hey everyone! I'm looking forward to this challenge. :)

Alessandra Casiello (apetrino1) | 320 comments Great! I will mark you as check ins and link your shelves once I am on a computer!

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 949 comments Alessandra, accepted your request.
Sent the rest of the team friend requests.
Also changed my profile name, due to the very rare occurrence of having another Alison spelled with one "L" doing the challenge and as a Co-captain for another team. Hopefully less confusion this way.
Also, changed my shelf to: tower-team-coyote-2015
Now trying to read thru all the threads on the "Tower Teams IV Captains Group discussion" to find out what I need to do to help the team and you.

I'm looking forward to starting Tower Teams IV!

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 949 comments Hello, Sunshine and Rebecca NJ. Thanks for both accepting my friend requests.

This is looking like it will be a LOT of fun.
I am a little intimidated by a few of the Goals, but hopefully with over 900 of them we will get a lot of the good ones.

Got to run, be back tonight, maybe this afternoon.
In the meantime, hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday

Alessandra Casiello (apetrino1) | 320 comments Glad to see so many have checked in and are excited about the challenge. Any questions, feel free to ask and I will do my best to get an answer for you :)

To get started and get to know each other I thought we could answer some fun questions?

What is your favorite genre?
What is your least favorite genre?
Do you have a favorite author?
What is your favorite book?
What is the last GREAT book you read?

And finally...
Is there a character from a book that you absolutely love or loathe?

message 21: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments Hello all :) Just checking in. We're working hard on getting all the spreadsheets up and running.

message 22: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra Casiello (apetrino1) | 320 comments What is your favorite genre? Romance and Paranormal/SCI-FI/Fantasy
What is your least favorite genre? Non-fiction
Do you have a favorite author? I love F. Scott Fitzgerald's books and for authors still alive I love Jennifer Weiner and Janet Evanovich
What is your favorite book? The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald Tender Is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald and The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
What is the last GREAT book you read? Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel was a great book!

And finally...
Is there a character from a book that you absolutely love or loathe? I love Jay Gatsby from The Great Gatsby and I love Gideon Cross from Sylvia Day Crossfire Series 4 Volume Boxed Set. Basically I love male tragic characters.
I really disliked Rachel from The Girl on the Train and Ani from Luckiest Girl Alive. Both characters were really annoying as narrators.

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 949 comments Oh! get to know you questions! Fun....

Glad to see we have 7 of our 9 members here, with 8 showing up as friends. Not bad with more than a week to go.

Fun fact for this challenge, "Any goal can only be fulfilled once, but it can be assigned more than once - the randomizer has some personality"..... "Only one book per goal. Meaning only one person per team."

Not something I am familiar to in other challenges I have done, but guess it came about with the Gladiator Games.

One of the group Moderators, aka Bossy Banshee suggests:
Sonia wrote:...Don't worry, my advice? unless the goal is very specific, read what you like and see when you finished if there is a goal it fits... but anybody will define their own strategy, of course...."

Just a little info I thought might be interesting to many of you.

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 949 comments Here are my get to know my books questions.
Oh wait, I me get to know me, and what I read. **grins**

What is your favorite genre? Paranormal, Urban Fantasy, Steampunk, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Mystery, Horror, Romance, Historical Fiction, etc...
What is your least favorite genre? I think I have to agree with Alessandra on this and say, Non-Fiction
Do you have a favorite author? Oh my!! How to narrow it down to just one... Maybe take a look at my Favorites shelf for a better idea, but I don't get all the good ones up there.
What is your favorite book? Again, this is just too hard to answer easily
What is the last GREAT book you read? Let me think.... Oh, at the end of last month I picked this up at the library on a whim and really enjoyed it. Clockwork Fairy Tales: A Collection of Steampunk Fables Clockwork Fairy Tales A Collection of Steampunk Fables by Stephen L. Antczak they took fables and fairytales and re-wrote them, lots of fun.

And finally...
Is there a character from a book that you absolutely love or loathe? Yes, no, oh gesh. That is such an in the moment of passion in the book and can change a lot as a series progresses. Off the top of my head I can only come up with Severus Snape.

message 25: by JackAttack (new)

JackAttack | 236 comments I'm so indecisive with some of these questions...

What is your favorite genre? Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Paranormal/Steampunk

What is your least favorite genre? vanilla romance (needs to be Historical, Paranormal, etc).

Do you have a favorite author? Soo so many authors I adore. I will buy anything from Maria V. Snyder without hesitation.

What is your favorite book? Just one book??? Really??? Probably Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. But oh so many more!

What is the last GREAT book you read? Ready Player One - a must read for all the nerds :)

And finally...
Is there a character from a book that you absolutely love or loathe? I don't run across a lot of characters that I loathe. If the character is big enough to really annoy I probably wont be able to finish the book. I love many characters - recently Lynn from Not a Drop to Drink, all time favorites include Charley from First Grave on the Right et all and Karigan from the Green Rider series.

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 949 comments Jacki wrote: "I'm so indecisive with some of these questions...

Hi!
I was the same way with my answers. :-)

Great books, added the two I hadn't heard about to my tbr list. Need to read Mirror Sight (Green Rider, #5) it will be a good one for this challenge at over 700 pages.

I've got my eye on Clockwork Fairy Tales: A Collection of Steampunk Fables :) Can't get enough steampunk!

If you haven't read Mirror Sight yet I would HANDS DOWN recommend waiting until the 6th book is closer to releasing. Although its wonderfully written and a great story, it follows a completely different story line than the rest of the series. I read this the day it was released (after waiting years I couldn't wait another day!) and was SO sad.

message 28: by Katie (new)

Katie | 1634 comments Oh, these questions are always so hard to answer!

What is your favorite genre? - Romance, but all varieties of...I read it almost exclusively.
What is your least favorite genre? - Non-Fiction. I rarely find something that I can really get into in that genre.
Do you have a favorite author? Lots! Currently one of my absolute favorites is Ilona Andrews.
What is your favorite book? - I'm not sure I can answer this one. One of my most recent 5 star reads was Vision in Silver.
What is the last GREAT book you read? - Magic Shifts

And finally...
Is there a character from a book that you absolutely love or loathe? - I love Kate Daniels, hence my current obsession with that series and Ilona Andrews. :)

I would highly recommend that collection, I have been trying to read a bunch of anthologies in Steampunk to introduce myself to new authors.

I am a little bummed to hear that about Mirror Sight, I will think on what you said, but not sure I want to wait another 2 to 4 years to read it. She is a great writer, but one of the slowest also. **grin**

I love the team of Ilona Andrews, they write some great stuff. have you read anything other than the Kate Daniels series? I enjoyed the first three of The Edge series, have the fourth and other stuff by them on my tbr list.

As well as The Others, for a few years now. Someday.....
Just not enough time in a day, week, month to read all that I want to, especially with all the new stuff that is constantly coming out.

message 30: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments I really had to put some thought into these questions, lol!!

What is your favorite genre?
I've noticed that this changes a lot but I do rotate through mysteries, young adult, and women's fiction/chick lit.

What is your least favorite genre?
Historical romance.

Do you have a favorite author?
There are a few but the one I really enjoy Darynda Jones who writes the Charley Davidson series.

What is your favorite book?
My favorite all time book is The Lorax by Dr. Seuss. This is the only book I'll willing re-read every year.

What is the last GREAT book you read?
The one that sticks in my head is The Martian. It was well written and such a different topic.

And finally...
Is there a character from a book that you absolutely love or loathe?
It would have to be Charley Davidson. It's the sarcasm and wit that keeps me coming back to those books.

This was another book I told everyone I knew that they had to read it. Did you read Ernest Cline's second book yet (Armada)? I saw that this one had a lot of mixed reviews.

Have you seen the movie?? They did a FANTASTIC job with it :)

Yes!!! I listened to the first book on audio book and it was one of the more enjoyable audio books I've encountered because of the humor.

Did you read Ernest Cline's second book yet (Armada)? I saw that this one had a lot of mixed reviews.

I haven't - I'm wary. I'll probably give it a try though, especially if i can get it from my library.

I absolutely loved Ready Player One and recommended it to everyone after I read it! I haven't read his new one yet, but I definitely want to!

Not yet - wee ran out time last weekend so it's on the "to-do" list for this week. Who can complain about the list when going to a movie is on it, right?

I liked Ready Player One too. I have Armada on my to read list but I've heard it's not as good.

message 38: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments What is your favorite genre?
I like pretty much any genre...

What is your least favorite genre?
... except horror and sometimes biography type books.

Do you have a favorite author?
Raymond E. Feist or Cherise Sinclair

What is your favorite book?
I don't know how to choose that anymore. I read so many of them :P

What is the last GREAT book you read?
probably Ready Player One for recent books.

Is there a character from a book that you absolutely love or loathe?
I've always loved The Rowan from The Rowan. I read it in highschool and am re-reading them now. It's a neat universe.

message 39: by Alison (Lady Coffin) (last edited Oct 22, 2015 03:05AM) (new)

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 949 comments So after after reading that so many of you have loved Ready Player One I have added it to my December TBR list, as it doesn't fit for November in another challenge I do.
However, so not sure about the follow up Armada those reviews are all over the place, but SO many of them are three or less, I am not so sure. Crazy thing is the description sounds interesting. Like you said Jacki, maybe if I can get it from the Library, then not too big a loss if it is just down right bad.

We don't really dress up but do sit outside to hand out candy to all the trick-or-treaters. This year since Halloween falls on Saturday, it will be 6 hours of handing out candy. I'll have to make sure the kindle is charged for those off times, lol!
