Allison Ann | 1408 comments Hello team! Another Tower Team beginning, how exciting. My name is Allison, I live in Northwestern Ontario, Canada where the deer outnumber the humans 50 to 1.

I guess I'm a co-captain, but I warned the mods that I'm the type of co-captain who can screw up a spreadsheet by simply thinking about it, so I offered to be the type of co-captain who checks books and cheerleads and never ever enters books in the team spreadsheet. :D So I reserved a couple of early spots in case we need them.

I'm off to work in a few minutes and I work in a shack with no internet, so I'll be around mornings and evenings. Looking forward to getting to know everyone. Have a great day teammates.

Sarah-jane | 144 comments I am sure you'll make an excellent co-captain Alison-Ann, no matter what you do :)

My name is Sarah-Jane, I am 23 years old and I currently live in the south of France where I am finishing my law studies.
I am so excited for this challenge to start ! Although I only started reading again in January (couple of books a month) so I must be quite a small reader compared to you guys ... But I hope it'll be enough to contribute to our team !

Tara | 225 comments Hi! I'm Tara and from the U.S. .. Illinois, the southern part of the state (nowhere near Chicago for those not familiar with the geography of the U.S.)

I'm 30 years old and married with two children, Garrett (3) and Katelyn (5months). My reading pace varies due to what's going on with the kids and work, so I only indicated I read a few books a month.

This is my first Tower Teams challenge, and I'm really looking forward to it!!

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Hi Sarah-Jane, Ariane, Tara and Danielle. Nice to meet all of you. Didn't get a chance to stop in last night because I was baking (as I will be every night this week) but I'm usually around for a couple of hours in the evening. I'm not much of a TV watcher so prime time is my computer time. :D I'm guessing we might be a non-chatty team though or we haven't hit our stride yet. ;)

Anyone reading anything amazing right now? I've had a string of mediocre books lately, but last night I started Hidden America: From Coal Miners to Cowboys, an Extraordinary Exploration of the Unseen People W ho Make This Country Work and while it isn't fantastic, it's definitely an interesting and easy read. I tend to read mysteries, suspense, adventure, non-fiction, historical fiction - fantasy and sci-fi when I can get it (my library doesn't stock much and I don't have it in the budget to buy books). Romance, horror and chick lit fall at the bottom of my choices, but they are all occasionally enjoyed. I avoid books about animals because something bad always happens and I hate sad crying over books. Humans can be dismembered and served in a stew and it won't bother me, but an elephant gets a hangnail and I'm a blubbering mess. My reading quirk I guess.

✿~Danielle~✿ (dmh1) | 5684 comments Hi to everyone who's already checked in. I'm Danielle and I'm from Wales.

I hadn't commented before as I was waiting for the captain to reserve a few spots first. However I don't want to not acknowledge those who have commented.

I'm co-captain of you Raven's, so any problems don't hesitate to tell either of us captains or the mods.

I participated in the last Tower Teams, so I hope you all have fun and read some good books.

A couple of first timers with Tower Teams it seems. This challenge is more a marathon than a sprint, so just read what you enjoy and have fun!

Looks like we're all over the place too with where we all live.

message 20: by Tara (new)

Tara | 225 comments I have been in the biggest reading slump of my life the last month. My grandfather has been ill and lost his battle with cancer last week, so I've had a lot on my mind other than reading.

However, I have been reading Fates and Furies. It's definitely caught my interest, and I think I might be able to finish this one (I haven't finished anything since September...) It's separated into two sections, Fates first and then Furies. I'm still in the Fates section, but I'm eagerly anticipating what will be revealed in the Furies section!

My favorites are definitely in the mystery/thriller/suspense genres. I also dabble some in historical fiction and horror. Fantasy and sci-fi, romance and chick lit are at the bottom of my preferences.

I tried reading the Harry Potter books earlier this year and just couldn't get into them. I read the first three, then gave up.

It was tough to come up with just one ... I could have gone on and on ;)

Personally, with the Harry Potter books ... the 5th, 6th, and 7th were the best in my opinion.

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Just got home from delivering cheesecakes (because apparently that is what I do at midnight) and I must be tired because I just drove past a bear in my yard, said "shoo bear" and walked into my house. I should probably have let him get a little further away from the house before doing that, but oh well. At least I had no cheesecakes left for him to eat. :D

I shall answer the getting to know you questions tomorrow. Nighty night team.

Ariane A bear in your yard??? You weren't kidding about this deer thing ;)
For those who have already participate, do we get the first five goals before de 7th? Patience is not my thing ;)

message 34: by Sarah-jane (new)

Sarah-jane | 144 comments 1) FAVOURITE GENRES: I can probably read absolutely any kind of genre and end up finding my happy place ! I must admit to having a preference for crime and thriller though :)

2) LEAST FAVOURITE GENRES: I seem to have a problem with anything that is too unrealistic ; so science fiction etc.

3) TOP 5 FAVOURITE BOOKS: I used to read a lot when i was younger then stopped until this year. So i don't have a lot of books to refer to yet. All the Harry Potter books obviously (i'd like to re-read them) and Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn ; Central Park by Guillaume Musso that i read earlier this year.

4) ANY PETS: A cat - Ginger

5) FAVOURITE COLOUR: Blue

6) FAVOURITE ICE CREAM FLAVOUR: Banoffee or Mint choc chip !

You must have been tired to just casually dismiss a bear in your yard.

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Tara, so sorry about your grandfather. Glad you were able to spend time with him at the end.

Wonder where our other teammates are? Helllooooooooooooo. :)

Danielle, I've read all the Harry Potter books (because I am a completist and can't leave series unfinished) and I really only liked the first one. I think we're definitely in the minority of earthlings though.

In my experience, black bears are generally not too aggressive unless they are mamas or injured. I've only been charged once in my life and the Ford Explorer took the brunt of that attack. :)

My questions...

1) FAVOURITE GENRES: Mystery and Suspense

2) LEAST FAVOURITE GENRES: Chick Lit, Horror and Romance

3) TOP 5 FAVOURITE BOOKS: I don't think I can do a top 5 but my favourite book for the majority of my life has been Anne of Green Gables (Anne of Green Gables, #1) by L.M. Montgomery and I still count it so today.

4) FAVOURITE AUTHOR: Nope, can't do it. My least favourite author is whatever hack wrote those 50 Shades of Garbage books though - that person can't write AT ALL!

5) ANY PETS: As of today I have two old cats. This is an all time low for me but it seems as if my animals all got old at the same time and I've lost quite a few over the last 5 years. My heart needs a break and my feline boys are enjoying the quiet so I'm giving them this time to themselves.

6) FAVOURITE COLOUR: Green and sometimes blue. But I dislike most blue-green shades. :)

7) FAVOURITE ICE CREAM FLAVOUR: I like vanilla and sometimes fruit flavours - I'd sooner eat brussel sprouts than chocolate ice cream, but then I like sprouts and hate chocolate.

I wish it was November already. ;)

I so agree to that... I was so angry on myself for having read those... but anyway, now I know why I don't like them :)

1) FAVOURITE GENRES: I can read almost anything but I recently discovered that I like paranormal books. I also like YA, mystery, suspense and romance novels.

2) LEAST FAVOURITE GENRES: I don't read much in the line of non-fiction and books centered about politics bore me.

3) TOP 5 FAVOURITE BOOKS: Well my number one favorite book is Skye O'Malley (O'Malley Saga, #1) by Bertrice Small because she was a strong independent woman.
I guess some of my other favorites would be
Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead, My Fair Godmother (My Fair Godmother, #1) by Janette Rallison, Insanity (Mad in Wonderland) (Insanity #1) by Cameron Jace & Snow White Sorrow (The Grimm Diaries, #1) by Cameron Jace

4) FAVOURITE AUTHOR: Oooh that's tough but I would have to say Bertrice Small because she wrote about so many strong independent women. I love a strong heroine and eventually named my daughter Skye after the character in the Skye O'Malley (the first book I ever read by her). However, I have many favorite authors that include Cameron Jace, V.C. Andrews, James Patterson, Joanne Fluke, Richelle Mead, Rachel Caine, Jayde Scott, Naomi Kramer & Richard Paul Evans.

5) ANY PETS: a black lab named Max, a chocolate lab named Ziggy and two spoiled cats named Rusty-Bear and Jumper.

6) FAVOURITE COLOUR: Purple

7) FAVOURITE ICE CREAM FLAVOUR:"
mint chocolate chip
