Allison Ann | 1408 comments Finished my GR nominee book.

NEW GOAL -- Read a book where a character is a necromancer.

No necromancers listed on our goalless books page - anyone have one?

25 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS
☃ Day 6 - Read a book with a turkey or pig on the cover for 10 points!

Leana (Flickering Fandom) (flickeringfandom) | 264 comments Hi all, just finished The Dream Thieves, which doesn't count for any current goals unfortunately, but which I quite enjoyed. Not sure what's up next yet - I'm reading Red Rising as part of a readalong so can't finish that yet (no matter how much I want to!) and don't have anything else on the go yet, so off to have a browse and see what I fancy!

message 706: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments The book I'll be finishing this afternoon has two characters named Tom in it. Neither is very important, but the goal only says two characters so I think it will work. :)

Anything you read will almost certainly be used eventually for a goal - so read whatever you want to read. You never know when two guys named Tom might show up. :D

Allison Ann | 1408 comments NEW GOAL -- Read a book where someone desires world domination.

That's an annoying goal. Anyone read something like that recently?

message 709: by ✿~Danielle~✿ (new)

✿~Danielle~✿ (dmh1) | 5684 comments Evening guys!

Not read anything that fits that goal.

Donna (dkflynn33) | 2715 comments How about Turkey Day Murder (A Lucy Stone Mystery, #7) by Leslie Meier for the day 6 Christmas goal
His head is chopped off but he is still a turkey -LOL

message 712: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments No one said the turkey had to be in one piece. :D

ALLISON -- Read a book that is on your "to read" shelf with the lowest GR star rating.

DAY 5 -- Read a book with a green cover for 10 points! -- LALINE

message 714: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments This world domination list has American Gods (American Gods, #1) by Neil Gaiman . Wasn't someone reading that for the BotM?

message 715: by Sarah-jane (new)

Sarah-jane | 144 comments I think Ariane is reading it :)

NEW GOAL: Read a book with 1-10 chapters
Used If Only in My Dreams by Keira Andrews

NEW GOAL: Read a book where the edition you are reading was published on the 23th of a month

message 717: by Allison Ann (last edited Dec 07, 2015 02:03PM) (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I've decided to go all out for BotM points in December. So I'm reading
Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo right now, because I still have 2 weeks to get the points and I have
American Gods (American Gods, #1) by Neil Gaiman Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng Uprooted by Naomi Novik on deck after that. I might even get DQs on the last two if the lottery works in my favour. Points!!

message 718: by ✿~Danielle~✿ (new)

✿~Danielle~✿ (dmh1) | 5684 comments I've never had much luck in liking the BOM's I've tried. So even thought they do give good points, unless it's something I really want to read I'd rather read the books I want.

message 719: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I've been reading crappy cozy mysteries for the 5 points, at least if these aren't great I'll get 20 points. :) I like the other Gaiman books I've read and I like fantasy, though YA fantasy sometimes gets a little eye-rolly for me. Six of Crows is pretty interesting so far. I like the world building aspect.

message 720: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Speaking of crappy cozy mysteries, does this look like a yellow dress to everyone?

The Final Arrangement (Flower Shop Mystery, #1) by Annie Adams

message 721: by ✿~Danielle~✿ (new)

✿~Danielle~✿ (dmh1) | 5684 comments Maybe just a yellow top, looks think ether might be some white trousers?

message 722: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Darn I was hoping for empire waisted dress. :) I haven't found anything else for that goal yet.

message 723: by ✿~Danielle~✿ (new)

NEW GOAL: Read a book where the main character is blond or has an "easy life
Used Donna's Cursed

NEW GOAL: Read a book where the edition you are reading was published on the 3rd of a month
Used Chimes at Midnight

NEW GOAL: Read a book shelved (listed on the first page of the "top shelves" of the book) as kindle - plurals and minor spelling variations are acceptable
Used Innocent Ride

NEW GOAL: Read a book with a cityscape on the cover

NEW GOAL: Read a book with a famous landmark on the cover

I've not time now to look at unused books and see if we have anything for these two goals.

message 728: by Allison Ann (last edited Dec 08, 2015 07:35AM) (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Nothing that works for either yet. I thought we had the Sphinx, but it was just a random Egyptian statue when I looked more closely. :)

Kenéz Boglárka I think in American Gods are some characters who seeks the world but I am not sure... some of the new gods, and another characters also but I don't know if it is said or just suggested...

message 732: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I think you are right Kenéz, the book is on the world domination list anyway. I'm not far enough along to say for sure yet.

message 733: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I found a book with cornucopia. I won't be able to get to it for awhile, but we have a month to finish those goals.

I'm glad someone found it, I want having much luck. And yes plenty of time, Christmas goals be done through to 15 January.

message 735: by Ariane (new)

Ariane Hello, I'm just checking in. I am having a hard time at reading these days, spending too much time on Netflix ;-)
I am reading American Gods, which is the BOM. And there's mention of world domination :)
And my edition also has a red cover so we'll see for the goals when I'm finished, which won't happen this week I'm afraid... we'll see if it gets better...

message 736: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments A lot of people are finding American Gods quite slow. I've just barely started it so I have no comment yet. :) Make sure you let us know when you comment in the BotM thread - extra points!

message 737: by Ariane (new)

Ariane I hope you like it! I've started to comment in the thread, slowly catching up ;-)

message 738: by LaLine (new)

LaLine | 411 comments The cover of the version of Night Train to Memphis Night Train to Memphis by Elizabeth Peters that I listened to has a cartoonish picture of the Sphinx and two of the pyramids of Giza on it. It's hard to see on GR because the picture of the cover is small and much darker than the cover that shows up on my OneClickDigital app. I think it should count for famous landmark. But if not, I'll be starting a book in a few days that has a picture of St. Paul's Cathedral on it.

I'm almost finished with the orange dress book, but it might have to wait until tomorrow evening because I can't keep my eyes open and I have lots of meetings tomorrow at work.

message 739: by LaLine (new)

LaLine | 411 comments Phew! Finished it. Orange dress goal is now done. 'Night all.

message 740: by Kenéz (new)

Kenéz Boglárka I wanted to start American Gods but I remembered that I read just a few months ago so it will not count...

message 744: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I'm pretty sure Lallybroch is a castle and if it isn't then Beafort Castle where Lord Lovat lives is definitely a castle, it's in the name. :)

How the heck are we supposed to judge that. Anyone have any ideas?

Do you really think that is the Sphinx on the cover? When I looked closely at it it seemed such a cartoonish drawing that I figured it was just a random pharaoh statue.

What does everyone think?

I wouldn't count it on that cover. I don't think you can tell wether it's the Sphinx and not just a random pharaoh statue. I could be wrong but I still wouldn't use it for this goal.
