I don't believe so. They are based on some of the characters from the Sherlock Holmes books, but I don't believe any of the scenarios are based on real life events. Unless you are just looking for basic conditions of life in Victorian England - particularly the conditions of a woman trying to live on her own.

I do have a book that would work for that goal (Constantinopolis), but I won't be able to start it for a day or two.

this is my first time doing the Towerteam challenge and I am enjoying it so far. I have enjoyed most of the books I have read except for a few. As for favorites, I have too many- lol! I am really glad I finally read Gone With the Wind. I have been wanting to read it for a really long time but never got around to it.

Only one group of books is making me want to throw them (I won't because they are on my kindle and I love that thing too much!LOL). I agreed to get a bundle set of books for free in exchange for honest reviews and I am irritated because it is a waste of my time. I read 3 of the 6 and I swear I am reading the exact same book with names & jobs changed. I understand it is a series but it is the same exact plot. The male coworker is in love with the female coworker, the female coworker is in love and sleeping with the boss, the boss is an arrogant prick that nobody likes and he is killed after his wife/fiance finds out that he is cheating on her with female coworker. The only difference is who kills him. One book it is the female coworker and the next book it is the male coworker and I am guessing this time it will be the disgruntled fiance. I am so glad I didn't buy them. I only agreed because I never read her books before and I wasn't sure how I got on her mailing list. Oh well, I'm done venting.

As for holidays, Christmas and New Years are pretty big. My husband's uncle only comes in at this time of year so we are always running around with him doing whatever fun things we can find to do. My youngest son has a bday in there so we celebrate that as well. My reading will definitely taper off the closer we get to Christmas but will pick up after the 1st.

As for snow, it is unusually warm here. We went Christmas caroling today at a nursing home nearby and we left our coats in the car while we were gathering in the parking lot. It is was warmer than usual here. It was 64 degrees and it is usually freezing and snowing by now.

Sarah-jane | 144 comments My reading is definitely going to suffer over the Christmas holidays which always end up to be absolute madness !! Seen as my family is half french and half Scottish we have to mix a lot of traditions so we end up celebrating Christmas Eve, Christmas day, Boxing day which is also a cousin's birthday, the 27th is my mom's birthday ... So normally by that time we are all stuffed and fed up of eating ha ha x) !!

Unfortunately, even after that I don't think I will be reading much until the 13th of January ... As I start my exams on the 4th and tend to do nothing else but study up until they are finished :/ !

message 804: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Hey Donna and Sarah-jane - sounds like you both go all out for Christmas. That's lovely. My family celebrates pretty low-key. We have a bunch of birthdays in December and a bunch in January, so sometimes it's easier to just celebrate Christmas on one of those days. This year my sister has a 12 hour window on Christmas Eve so she is forcing everyone to her house for dinner. ;) I work until dinner so I'll be rolling in with all the work done but I suspect cleanup will fall to me. Also she likes the traditional turkey dinner, when I host at my house we eat anything but turkey. Yuck! :) After dinner we generally take a walk through the cemetery to see the ice candles and visit my dad (if it will even be cold enough this year, with our crazy weather we might have the first non-white Christmas in history) and play board games until the kids finally go to bed. Christmas Day is for relaxing and visiting and then Boxing Day my store is the only one open for 80 km in any direction, so I definitely keep busy.

message 805: by Sarah-jane (new)

Sarah-jane | 144 comments Allison Ann what kind of store do you have ? :)

message 806: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments A small convenience store and gas station.

message 807: by Sarah-jane (new)

Sarah-jane | 144 comments Oh that must get really busy then !

message 808: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments We're in a very small town, but it seems like everybody needs milk and gas on Boxing Day. :D

message 809: by Sarah-jane (new)

Sarah-jane | 144 comments Two very important things in life, especially if you're the only store in 80km !

Definitely enjoying the group and the challenge, though things are getting busier here (I work part-time in retail but in the run up to Christmas it's much busier!) which is making it a bit harder to get the reading in. I'm currently reading a few different things (Chimera, Fool Moon, Blue Lily, Lily Blue& Red Rising) so getting some reading done but no completions recently!

Nothing making me want to throw it across the room at least! Christmas Eve/Day & Boxing Day we have family and friends over, so things will be pretty busy but lots of fun hopefully! I'm hoping that after the immediate Christmas rush my reading should pick up a little but I'm honestly not sure!

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I was searching through free Christmas books on Amazon this morning to see if maybe something with a fireplace or elf or reindeer or sleigh would pop up and I discovered two things. 1) There is a lot of free Christmas porn out there - including erotic gay prison Christmas porn, a subset that is not as small as you might think and B) There is something called a "forever baby" and I'm not sure how it differs from a regular baby, but I don't think I need to know. :D

✿~Danielle~✿ (dmh1) | 5684 comments Evening guys!

I love Christmas so definitely looking forward to it. Plenty lots of fun times. My reading won't slow down much really.

I've read some great books, some good book and some ok books. Nothing that was really bad. Wait I remember one bad read. I pretty much read the things I know I'll enjoy.

message 813: by ✿~Danielle~✿ (new)

✿~Danielle~✿ (dmh1) | 5684 comments I'll have the farm goal done in about an hour. I think I have a ward book too, need to double check.

I also have books that will work for the Christmas goals of fireplace and sleigh in title. These are books that won't be read soon though, so if anybody else can cover them, then good.

message 814: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I'm almost done a ward book Danielle, so you can read something else if you want.

I was thinking the same thing! LOL I did that search last night and was surprised as well. I gave up on that but I do have a book with a fireplace. Thanksgiving by Janet Evanovich

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Couldn't find chamomile anywhere, that was a surprise. I did find one to read this afternoon though. Here are our goals.

ARIANE -- Read a book where someone desires world domination.

DANIELLE -- Read a book where a character visits a farm.

-- Read a book from a self published author that only has one published book on amazon.

LALINE -- Read a historical fiction novel that is based on real events.

ALLISON -- Read a book that contains the word chamomile.

25 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS

DAY 12 -- Read a book that has elves, reindeer or a sleigh on the cover or in title for 10 points! -- DANIELLE
DAY 13 -- Read a book with naughty or nice in the title for 10 points!

An non-returnable one? A baby that the "billionaire bachelor" or the "army doctor" or the "lonesome cowboy" bought on sale?

message 820: by Tara (new)

Tara | 225 comments Good evening, sorry I've been MIA this past week - we had a family vacation to Disney! Whew are we tired (and broke, ha!).

I've been enjoying my time with the Tower Teams challenge. It's been great interacting with all of you ladies. I especially like that it's a low-key, read what you want type challenge. Although I am never going to win any prizes for reading very quickly, I don't feel like I'm hindering our team with my very slow reading pace. Although I do envy those of you who have read more books since this challenge started than I have read all year...

Seems like everyone is doing well. And I am soooo unprepared for Christmas! Eek! I have *most* of my shopping done, but then I have two family members that I have absolutely no ideas for. Ugh. And gift cards are frowned upon in my family.

So hopefully everyone else is doing good and enjoying their reading! Happy reading :)

Hope Disney was awesome Tara, very jealous ;)

I have absolutely loads left to do for Christmas too - lots of shopping that has to wait until after pay day Monday/for my day off on Tuesday, so that could end up being a somewhat frantic day! I at least know what I'm getting for pretty much everyone, just two peoople left to figure out ideas for.

✿~Danielle~✿ (dmh1) | 5684 comments NEW GOAL: Read a book with black text on the cover
Used donna's The Order of the Golden Dragon

NEW GOAL: Read a book where there is a rebellion or resistance to a regime

I don't see anything in the notes of the goalless books, but do think any of the books you've read and are unused work?

message 826: by Allison Ann (last edited Dec 14, 2015 07:01AM) (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I don't have anything that will work for that goal, but a couple of Donna's sound promising. Could Revenge of the Castle Cats be resistance to a regime or could Five-Seven-Five be a rebellion? What do you think Donna? Or maybe Kenéz' The Lost Hero?

If not, Faith is reading Red Rising which should definitely work.

Revenge of the Castle Cats is kind of like Buffy vs fairy tale characters. Fairy Tale characters have become corrupted and Alice is trying to eliminate them.

Five Seven Five is about people who were shrunk and started their own colony in the basement of the building they were shrunk in. The MC learns that she is really only 6 inches tall and her people were shrunk.

The funny thing is that the very last book I read before this challenge started would fit that goal perfectly - Uglies. LOL

Thanks Donna. It was worth a shot. At least someone is reading something that will work even if we don't have it right away. You have intrigued me with Buffy vs Fairy Tales. :) I may have to get that series someday - when I become independently wealthy and can buy all the books I want. ;)

LOL I know the feeling. I cheated though. I paid for the amazon kindle unlimited membership and can get most books I want without actually buying them. I get way more than $10 worth of books every month (I just don't own them) and no due dates like the library. I believe those books were ones I got on that membership. Still have a few left to read of The Grimm Chronicles but I wanted to mix it up a little and then I will finish the series out later.
